Quick Mrs. Pacman question
« on: April 15, 2006, 01:14:17 pm »
I hopped in a local laundromat yesterday while my fiance was cutting her hair because they had a Mrs. Pacman machine.  As I played it I noticed something weird, Mrs. Pacman was moving really fast compared to the ghosts.  Obviously this made the game MUCH easier.  I came home and played the game on my arcade and the speeds were much different.  I thought it may be a dipswitch setting in the game but when I press F2 to check this out, I get a screen that says something about a bad rom.  What am I missing here?  are they just different versions of the game or different settings?  Thanks!

The speed setting on the arcade you were playing must have been set pretty high. Sometimes you can approach a Ms. Pacman machine to have it be as slow as the original Pacman, or sometimes it can be so fast it's hard to make all of the turns.

I like it pretty fast, but the last one I played was too fast. Wasn't there some sort of speed up chip that could be added to Ms. Pacman?

That version has been around since the beginning of time...or at least as long as I can remember, and it's always been my preferred version.  Maybe because..as you say...it's easier.  Well it's easier if you're good at Pac-Man.  I've seen people who are TERRIBLE at it because she moves SO fast they simply can't control her and are too slow on the reaction to either turn Ms. Pac around or turn down the tunnel they want...whatever.

In MAME it used to be a dip switch setting, but a few versions ago, it became it's own rom.  mspacmnf I belive is what it's called.  there's also a pacmanf that's fast Pac-Man.  The Hack is also available on Jr. Pac-Man, although I've never seen it in MAME, only on the Arcade machine.  The one in my basement has the fast Jr. Pac roms..if they need to be copied...someone let me know.  :)
