  • I want to Build My Own Video Poker Machine!!!
Bill accepter hook up running MAME or other
« on: April 10, 2002, 03:30:38 pm »
Here's my problem, hope someone has tried it... I'm looking to hook up a bill accepter to a computer.. I'm building a Video Poker machine. I'm thinking of running MAME or another type of emulator (or even making the program itself.) The problem I'm running into is that I don't know how the accepters work and how to hook one up. I know with a coin accepter, it shoots a single signal over to the credit button letting it know to add a credit. Does the bill accepter send out multiple signals for the different denominations?

What I want to have is when someone enters a dollar bill, it will apply the apropriate credits to the machine. I need the machine to identify the difference between 1's,5's,10's, and 20's. Of course this is one of those "for entertainment only" machines. Not trying to make it so it will give cash back or anything. I just need it to give the proper credits for the dollar amount.. Has anyone tried this before? If so, what was the outcome and how did you do it?

Please reply even if you think it will not work. I just need to know where I stand... Also, does anyone have(or can find)  a video poker ROM for MAME or other emulator? I will give $25 to the person who can find me the best working rom for any emulator. (via Paypal) I just can't find one. Looking for a simple "Jacks or Better" ROM. I need the ROM and a link to the emulator that it runs off of. Send the ROM and link to the emulator, plus your PayPal information to: Blueblade@provide.net

I know it is a bribe, but I just can't find one anywhere. Serious about the $25 bounty though.

Thank you.

I believe (don't quote me) that bill validators with MAME would work by sending pulsed input. That is, if a quarter would produce one pulse, a dollar would produce four and a fiver would produce twenty.

You're gonna get in trouble asking people for ROMs, even offering to pay.

It sounds like you have a commercial purpose in mind. While using unlicensed ROMs is illegal no matter what, at least it's somewhat benign when they're used for personal, entertainment purposes. If you plan to make money from this thing, you're entering a whole new world of legal liability (not to mention the ethics of it.) Why not write your own video poker program? It'd be fairly trivial. I'll do it for you if the price is right :)

Edit: D'oh, didn't notice the "for entertainment only" in your original post. Never mind.

If you do find a good video poker program/emulator, could you post  a link to this board?  I'd be interested in fooling around with bill validators too...
