Leaf vs Microswitch for fighting games
« on: April 12, 2006, 11:35:04 am »
I just moved this from hardware review to here...i thought it fit better!

Hey all, I realize that the topic of leaf vs microswitch has been beat to death but I was hoping for a little different feedback on the subject.  After doing a good bit of research I found that the leaf buttons were preferred for older games like track and field etc.  Apparently they allow for faster hitting of the button.  While I love playing the older games, I was raised on Street Fighter II, and other fighting games.  Therefore, my current cabinet has microswitches and they work great.  I was contemplating switching to leaf buttons before I did, does anyone have experience with leafs and fighting games?  I think they may feel a little odd.  Thanks all for your input!

Nate

This has been modified to be actually coherent!

I stopped by an actual video game room yesterday which was attached to a laundromat near my house.  They had a few games, galaga, Centipede, Street Fighter VS Xmen, MKII, etc...   I checked out the dimensions on some of the cabs but also the buttons.  It seems that Street Fighter VS Xmen used microswitches and MKII used leaf.  I'm not sure how I felt about the leafs in the MKII but they felt "right" in galaga and centipede.  I may actually consider using microswitches on my 1st and 2nd player controls and then leafs on my 4 Way joystick and corresponding buttons.  Do most games that used leaf, IE Track and Field, galaga, etc  have both players play on the same joystick?  Like, they alternate turns on the same stick?  Or does it turns with both players using different sticks and buttons?  Thanks!
