Help Hacking Mouse Please
« on: April 11, 2006, 08:25:29 pm »
I am trying to hack a Compaq 2 button ps/2 ball mouse for my betson 3" trackball, I have seen a few how to's, and I am not great with electronics, so without a good match in pictures to my mouse, I have trouble finding things:

I have found the 2 black things I have to take out, the ones with the green dots on top right?, and do I also have to take out the clear things with the red dots on top, or are those the optional things?

Where do I hook up for power?

Which wire from the molex trackball connector do I hook up to where?

Here it is:

Yes, remove the black things with the green dots.

No, leave the clear things there.

Generally, the middle of the three holes you uncover when you pull the black things will have the +5 power.  You only have to hook up one.

Ground will be whichever trace connects to all three buttons.  Looks like there's an empty hole for ground where the middle mouse button would be, so that's easy.  If you want the mouse buttons, you remove the tiny microswitches and the button inputs are the traces that don't connect to ground.

On a Happ TB, red is +5, black is ground, yellow and green are one axis, and blue and purple are the other.  As long as you get red and black right, you can afford to experiment with the others.

*edit-  You're using a Betson, not a Happ.  The connections are the same, except that the purple wire is brown instead.

Axis wires and +5 look right.  Don't know about the ground without seeing the back of the board, but it's whichever hole has a trace that connects to both other mouse buttons.

If you've got a meter, it never hurts to verify the +5 before you plug in your TB.

Here, where is the ground, where I would solder the black wire?

I see that ones that link between all 3 buttons, but which one do I put the ground on, the middle left or right button one?

If they're all linked, they're all the same, electrically speaking.  Use any of the three you want.  Or all three, it makes no difference.

But, I'd go with the middle one, just because it's already empty.  ;D
