Question about the shifter on a driver Mame cabinet
« on: April 05, 2006, 12:17:11 pm »
I have just purchased a mame driver cabinet that is nearly complete. I need to add a shifter to it and I was wondering if there were any issues I should consider when looking at this as a shifter

I'm going to tackle it this winner while I finish up a few other projects, but I was mainly concerned the "spring to center" could be an issue for games like pole position. (knocking me out of high gear)

The return to center should not be a problem. I am not sure, but when you play a game on the keyboard, they have 1 key for low gear or shift down, and a 2nd key for high gear or shift up. So... the return to center stick should work fine.

Your right, I didn't think to check it on the keyboard. I'll do that before I purchase.

there is not one simple answer to shifting in mame.

see this thread for a discussion of the problem.

there have been many requests for a clean-up of this in mame, and i think it's on the to-do list for PowerMAME. you can check the PowerMAME website (it was down for update when i checked just now).
