Weird LCD TopGun issue...
« on: April 05, 2006, 11:51:04 am »
So I am setting up these guns over at a friend's house...  And I am experiencing a very strange problem.  I am using Acorn's driver and just trying to set up the first gun.  Hardware calibration seems to go ok.  I then enter Acorn's calibration.  On the screen where you roll the gun over the 4 edges of the TV something strange happens.  The mouse pointer tracks ok everywhere but the left hand side of the TV.  As you go from left to right, the cursor and laser pointer seem to get further and further apart.  And about 2-3 inches from the edge of the left side of the TV, the cursor stops.  It's as if it thinks it has hit the edge of the TV and can't go any further.  But it hasn't.  I move the gun even further left, and the cursor just sits there - "stuck".

So of course in the games it does the same thing.

I tried a different set of LED stands and got the same results.  I tried recalibrating the hardware several times too.  All produced the same results.

Any ideas?  I am thinking something isn't right with the hardware calibration, but after redoing it several times I am at a loss over what it could be.

Thanks!

JODY

I don't remember...is Acorn's driver the one that shows the X / Y values in a box just prior to entering the calibration screen?  If so, blank out the values prior to going to the calibration screen.  Bad values may be restricting the size of the screen.  Then go into the calibration screen and calibrate the driver.

Another thing to try is to make sure when you do hardware calibration you are pointing outside the boundaries of the screen.  Doing hardware calibration too close to the screen edge can restrict moving to the edges.

Verify you are standing far enough away from the screen to allow the stands to read the gun's position.  For larger screens, you may need to stand a little further away.

Ok, I will try that.  Never thought of that.   :banghead:

Really?  I have the exact same TV, guns, and driver as my friend.  And only his setup is weird like this.  It can't hurt to try though.
