Just curious what you think of it even if you havent seen one or had experience with it before. I am wanting to turn this into a jukebox.

No the spec is 600 mhz. I can replace with a celeron or a pentium 3 if need be but it should run everything I need fine and stay really cool. These processors produce ony 10-20% of the heat of a pentium.

Freebox looks perfect. That is exactly what I was imagining.

I am still trying to decide wheather to strip the componets and put into another box or work with this one and modify it a bit.  It looks so nice I might just paint it and modify it. I want to add speakers and a sub to it somehow. I might just place a shell over it which will contain the speakers and sub.  Lots of things to decide.

nice buy man! it says "speakers" on it, so its already got a soundcard (as answered in the Q&A)
id throw it into a slimline enclosure, perhaps with the case off, and put in speakers underneath. in theory, you could have a 6-8" deep wall hanger!
Build it and they will come, destroy it and they will come to watch. That's a win/win situation!

I just bought one of these too! Looks like it would work well for a pc jukebox. Hopefully the screen isn't too small though. I already have a bunch of P3 700 mhz proccessors laying around, so an upgrade will be no problem.

This is why i designed for an 800x600 display so it would show ok on the small panel machines... What i have done with mine is just wall mout it as is with an audio lead and TV out lead just hooked up into my home cinema set up. This gives me sound all around the room and enables the videos to come out of the projector on the big screen leaving the panel for just selecting songs, searching etc...

I was however thinking of adding some sort of sorrund as you suggest so i can fit a coin mech and a marquee. Just for looks really.

I just recieved the unit last night. Man is this thing small! I love the form factor. The screen is a fairly good size.

I decided to keep it the way it came and just run a audio out to a room speaker system. That way I can hide the speakers better and I have a nice clean screen.

I just got XP installed on it.

Logik: did you find all of the drivers for it yet? I havent started looking and was wondering if you could direct me to the drivers for the 3m screen.

I haven't received mine yet, so don't know where to begin looking. I just bought it last night and have to wait for it to ship here. But if I do get it and find the drivers, i will let you know. If you do find them first, please let me know

man I want one!   For pretty cheap, you can get a power supply that will run that board from your car.  I wonder if the wireless would work with the car running.  Would make a sweat car computer if you could (computer under the seat or something.

question... usb any chance?

Yes this has usb. It is a micro ATX motherboard so it is full featured. Here is the link to the mobo thats in mine.

BTW logik, no luck on the video or touch screen drivers yet.  Everything else works from the drivers on the via website. I am going to test a new video driver right now.

Well that driver didnt want to install.  It is kind of strange.  If I boot without a driver installed the video works but isnt ideal. Once the correct driver is installed, it boots but once it is in the operating system the screen goes black.

try this...after you reinstall the "propper" video driver, boot into VGA mode. (F8) Select a lower resolution and reboot and see if that gets you in. It is possible that the res is set to high for the monitor to display. this happened with my 15in lcd.

When I boot in vga mode everything looks great but it wont let me adjust the resolution. It states that the resolution is -1pixel by -1pixel. really strange.

Did you get the touch screen to work yet?

Just got mine an installed xp sp2 on a laptop hard drive. This thing runs pretty decently being a via proccessor. I got the video drivers installed. You have to update the bios to 1.16 to get them to work. I installed the drivers prior to the update and the screen was aweful! After bios update, looks great. Will only do 640x480 32bit though, wish I could get 600x800. Now to tackle the touch screen drivers.

Here are the touchscreen drivers http://www.3m.com/3Mtouchsystems/downloads/drivers/TW564SR5.zip

extract files, run setup from disk1 folder.

Bios files:
Bios: http://www.via.com.tw/download/mainboards/1/0/I0100116.bin
Flash Utility: http://www.via.com.tw/download/mainboards/5/0/awfl823b.exe

Boot from bootably floppy, run flash utility and follow prompts

Now to test some jukebox software!

Thanks a bunch logik. I was trying to upgrade using the utility in windows. (didnt want to have to hook up a floppy drive) but the program to do so was impossible to find.

I will go your route to do that.

Let me know what you come up with for jukebox software to use. It is hard to find some that wil be ok on such a small screen. Are you planning on running this to external speakers?

I just setup xlobby using the default skin and it looks awesome on that sceen. Very easy to setup and use. I pointed it to my snap server that hold my media for my media center PCs and it uses all the album art already in that folder.

I am planning on using external speakers, i just pulled the ones in there to make some air flow. The barcode scanner also makes a great laser light show with the lighst off.

I pulled the laser to free up some space in the case. The speakers will go next.  I will be using the wireless audio kit that is on sale at buy.com right now.  It is the RCA Lyra wireless audio kit.  This will work perfectly for what I need.

I will most likely only run media from the machine due to me not wanting to have to have other systems running nonstop. (even though they are most of the time anyway) I picked up a 250GB drive from woot.com the other day for $50 so I dont see a problem with doing it this way either. Besides it will be a nice backup for my audio.

I have updated the Bios but now the screen is fuzzy no matter what, both in the boot up sequence and in windows. Any Idea as to what might have happened.  I have redone it multiple times.

My screen was fuzzy if I was over the 640x480 res. Did you use the driver files from via's website, along with the 4in1 driver pack?

It is fuzzy stripes that move through the image right from when I press the power button. So this is due to the bios. I have installed everthing including the correct bios.

I was thinking it was what output it was set to in the bios so I switched it from crt/lcd to lcd. Now it only starts at a white screen and stays at the white screen even though it boots into windows fine.  Now I have to figure out how to fix this blindly. Or hook up another monitor and hope it works. Did you cange this in your bios? If so what did you set it at?

Choosing LCD changed the output source. You have to now hook something up to the video out source to change it back. If you are getting fuzzy lines without even booting into windows, it is possible that the screen is messed up.

Also, there should be a jumper on the board to reset the bios, which will put your display back to crt/lcd

Thanks for all your help logik.  I reset the jumper and it viewed on the screen again. This time I set it to CRT in the bios and it displays perfectly.  That is what was giving me the fuzzy lines before. Now off to add SP2 and xlobby.

Just reset the bios with the jumper. This will put everything back to its defaults. Download the manual from VIA's website for the jumper configuration and instructions.
