What are you cabinet PC Specs?
« on: April 03, 2006, 12:54:55 pm »
I'm doing a bit of research for another project and I'm curious what you all are running in your cabinets or main arcade PC?

CPU
Ram
Graphics Card

Are the big three, but any info you want to give would be great.

Thanks :).

Thanks, I should I noted.  Can you specify whether you have a PCI or AGP graphics card as well.

Thanks.  (everytime I say thanks now I think of the latest southpark, thannnnks) :).

How much did this cost you to build?

The bulk of the machine came from an old Compaq Duron 800 mHz.

I picked up a new MoBo socket 462 - $33
512 MB PC 2700 memory - $40
AMD Duron 1.8 applebred - $45
MSI RX9250 ATI AGP Card (128 mb) (because the onboard video sucked) - $35

I upgraded the Power Supply to 450 W for another $15.

Some low-end components, but it works just peachy for mame and the other PC games I run in the cab (Tiger Woods 2005, NFL BLitz 2000, Daphne, Visual Pinball).  It was a pretty good upgrade for right around $150.

Recently upgraded my cab when I upgraded my main system to a AMD 64 X2.  My cab is now what my old system was a P4 2.8ghz, with 768 MB ram (all the extra ram I had laying around)  and a Geforce FX5200 agp with 256 ram, as I upped my system to a PCI express

on board nForce 3d graphics (MSI).

when it comes to graphics cards, i'd highly reccomend using on board 3D graphics.  the last thing you want to have in your cabinet is some ungainly card that's sticking out of a motherboard that can be broken off by a little bump.

I personally can vouch for mame working quite well with the nForce.

some of your specs are WAAAY too over the top for something like MAME, or even Zinc. Heck Epsxe doesnt even require anything faster than 2ghz. In my opinion, for this hobby its a waste of hardware - unless you're playing 3D PC games...

Might be over the top right now but got a great deal on a Shuttle Xpc in this config and it should be good in the cab for at least a couple of years.  For those who are not familar with the Shuttle it is a small form factor PC.

Main emulator computer:
Windows 2000 Pro
AMD Sempron 1000 Mhz Processor
512 MB RAM
Radeon 9550 Graphics Accelerator (64 MB, I think)
120 GB HD

The computer is a couple years old now. I don't know how much it cost to build (other than too much). Plays pretty much all arcade and console games (up to N64 and PSX) without problems.

Aux:
Around 700 Mhz
Around 192 MB RAM
On-board graphics and audio
30 GB (between 2 HDs)

A hybrid of a few PCs I had sitting around. Plays most arcade games fairly well.
Note: Out of town with limited internet access 2-28-08 through 3-16-08

So far, I'm winning:

AMD K6-2 500
128mb RAM (I think - might be less now).
TNT2 M64

Does (almost) everything I want it to do.

:)
