4 joysticks PLUS a dedicated 2/4-way??
« on: February 25, 2003, 03:00:07 pm »
hello all,

pardon the newbie question, but i'm looking to do a 4-player setup, and have a seperate joystick for 2/4-way games.. is this possible with just a 4-player ipac, or do i need something else for this? i'm looking at something like this:

ugh, another 4 player panel =P

You can certainly use the 4player ipac.  If inputs become an issue (I'm too tired to do the math right now) you can simply wire the dedicated 2/4 way in parallellellellell with another joystick .

*shrug* next!

thanks rampy... that's kind of what i was wondering - if you could 'piggyback' multiple controls to one input... thanks!

np, just don't let friends screw you up in a game by "accidently" bumping the 4 way (assuming its wired in parallel to whatever stick you are currently playing on) causing you to break your "block" or fall into a pit or something =P

good luck with your project!

To keep the extra joystick from messing up player 1 or whatever as rampy describes, you could put an A/B switch on their grounds, so that only one can be engaged at a time.

I'd suggest either a slider/toggle switch or a light up button that'll indicate when the 4 way is engaged, so you don't get your first guy killed using a dead stick.

You can still wire all the directional switches in parallel, but the commons/grounds would go to the switch, which would then go on to the iPAC.
