Do LEDs get hot?

They do if you run more voltage than they are rated for. Of course, what usually happens is they shine really bright for about half a second and then poof, it's dead. It does get hot when this happens though.

Well of course.... but then again, most things get hot if you run too much voltage through them... if not catch fire/spark/etc.

normal leds do not get hot unless you are pumping too much current through them, Infra-Red leds can warm up quite a bit in normal use even with the proper current
