Red LEDs or White LEDs for my red plastic coin rejects?
« on: March 24, 2006, 11:48:38 am »
Just curious.

The Retroblast Guide to wiring up coin door lights left me without an answer as the guided ends with: "In the end I decided to just use the original #161 lamps, as they had a warm yellow glow and just the right amount of brightness."

So, is the red too red?  Is the white too white?
Thanks

I have 1 red and 1 yellow on my coin door reject buttons. It gives a nice orange glow to them.

Ahhhhh... interesting.  So each red reject has a single red and a single yellow LED behind it?

You got any pics?
Thanks

I would imagine using the same color led with the reject button would work the best.  The biggest concern I could see would be blocking them off from each other to avoid bleeding.

I use red on mine.  The "buttons" are actually orange, but they look red when lit.

I use a 3 cluster red LED with the Happ T 3 1/4 wedge socket on my Coin Controls door. Looks great with my red reject buttons. A lot better than the incandescents that were in there before. When the lights are off there is a nice glow. There is no bleed over either. Use the same color.

For my future green/blue rejects, I'll definitely be using the appropriate color.  But my upright machine has red rejects and I just wasn't sure if they'd end up looking too red or something.  And the fact the retroblast review ends with him going back to the original incandescents makes it sound like the reds might have been "too red".

I use red on mine.  The "buttons" are actually orange, but they look red when lit.

Mine are definitely red and look good with the tiny incandescent bulbs behind them, I just left the Retroblast "guide" being more confused about what was best (red, white or original bulb) than before I read it.

Dig it.  Thanks everybody.

Your coin door looks similar to mine. If you want new reject button assemblies, I know Bob Roberts has some. I got mine from Betson brand new.

Yeah! Sure.... Here you go...

They sit on a little bit of strip board that goes straight into the original lamp holder sockets.

I don't have a pic of them lit up, but you can see how they go in and two Ultra Bright LEDs is more than enough output. At least as bright as the original incandessant lamps.

If you use two reds, then they are VERY red.. The red and yellow together makes a great orange colour, that almost mimics the colour you get from small Neon lamps.
