A couple questions regarding bolt patterns on many joysticks
« on: March 23, 2006, 05:34:11 pm »
I have been researching many different brand joysticks for a project and the results have really surprised me. Is it true that Happ, Betson, Wico and Sanwa joysticks all use the same 3" * 2.6" mounting pattern? Of course, I know some of the specialty Happ ones, like the trigger stick and ball-tops, use different bolt patterns. I'm just wondering which ones by the other companies I listed have strange bolt patterns.

Also, what is a good standard size shaft hole? I understand that many of the standard ones only need 1 1/8", but that some of the  complex ones, like the P360, need 1 1/2". Can someone clarify?

Thanks for the help.

You are correct about the mounting holes, and you can add X-Arcade to the list.  I dunno about the center hole diameter.

OK, thanks. I forgot about checking X-Arcade. That's a great help.

Any information regarding the hole diameter is still appreciated though.

Can anyone lend an opinion about the shaft hole diameter?

The shaft hole diameter for the 360 doesn't have to be so big.Mine is only 12mm(under 1")and doesn't touch, thats on a 1/2" wood panel though.Hope this helps.

I used the same 1 1/8" bit for my 360 center hole as my buttons. It looks like you could use much less...

The total thickness makes a big difference.  3/4" wood plus 1/8" lexan top needs a bigger hole, while a 3/4" wood routed to 5/8 with not overlay can do the "normal" 1 1/8" hole, IIRC.

yeah thats right, that's why I included the thickness of the panel.Obviously the thicker the panel, the larger the hole has to be unless routing.Maybe I should of stated that. Thanks u_rebelscum.
