free cabinet - on street in Toronto - GONE
« on: March 21, 2006, 09:03:00 pm »
I saw this cabinet on the street.  There's no CP or coin door.  There's a board in there (no idea what it is).  I saw it at 5 pm today.

It's near Keele and Steeles.  One street east of Keele, go south on Petrolia (from Keele).  Turn left at forst left.  Got to end, and street bends to the left.  Cabinet is on the left after bend.

I will see if it's there in the morning and post an update.

Might be a good start for somebody looking for a cheap mame cab.

(sorry about the crappy pics... all I had on me was my palm pilot camera)

For the better part of a year (back before I had any cabs), I fantasized about finding a free cab just sitting on the street here in TO.

When one finally comes up, I find I have no use for it, although finding out what the board is interests me. It would, alas, take over an hour out of my morning and I just don't have that time today.

Hope somebody gives it a good home and gets it out of the weather.

Thanks, mmmPB, for the heads-up.

Cheers

I grabbed the board today.

I'll hold it for a few days just in case somebody here picks up the cab and wants it.  If not, it's yours.

Also... a little update.  The monitor is damaged.  The part at the back (no idea what it's called) is broken.  It was glass, now it's broken glass.

That's okay.  The chassis is the important part.  ;)

That's a Sega convert-a-cab like those used for Frogger.  Did anyone pick this up or did it go poof?

It was still there last night... I didn't go that way this morning, but I'll check on the way home.  It's a real shame if it just goes to waste.

edit:  I just looked at lunch...   still there.

Agreed.  I'm here in NJ converting that same cabinet into a MAME cab and it's bumming me out that it's gonna get tossed.

If I had a truck, I'd take a computer and a monitor from my work (they're getting rid of a few), stick it in, add some controls and call it a mame cab.

Then I'd sell it on craigslist.

  ;D
