Car Audio Speakers on a Creative Inspire 2.1
« on: March 20, 2006, 10:59:41 am »
I've read a bunch of people chose to buy a set of Creative Inspire 2.1 PC speakers and modify them to work with Sony Xplod speakers, but I haven't found any technical write ups on doing so.

Does anyone have a tutorial or write up on how to do this?  Is it as simple as just cutting the wires and wiring them straight to the car audio speakers?

Also, Xplod's seem to be the favorite, but is there any limitation or speakers that wouldn't be compatible?

I'm looking at these specifically:

Creative Inspire 2.1 PC

Sony Xplod 5 1/4" (4-way, 220 watts, 30Hz-32kHz)

Pioneer 5-1/4" (2-way, 130 watts, 40Hz-22kHz)

TIA

I went with the creative inspire 2.1 speakers and two Sony xplod speakers.  I'm very pleased with the results.
Here is a video that should help:

Yes, it basically is this simple.  I had no trouble hooking up the car speakers to the creative system and I had never done anything like this before.  All of the ones you are looking at will work.  The creative system and the Xplod speakers are both 4ohms, but the Pioneer speakers I couldn't find an impedance.  I'm pretty sure most car speakers are 4ohms so your probably alright.

Hm, it doesn't appear that you can buy the Inspire 2600 anymore... NewEgg has Creative Inspire T3000 2.1, but it obviously doesn't say anything about ohms on their spec details... Creative's web site doesn't mention it either... how do you know when buying a set of PC speakers, what the ohms are?

Cheers!

When I bought my speakers, Creative didn't sell the Inspire 2600 so I went with the Inspire 2500, but it doesn't look like they sell those anymore either.  I don't know how I figured out that the speakers were 4 ohms but, some how I did (maybe in the instruction book ???).  The T3000 2.1 system I would bet is 4 ohms, but to be sure you could contact creative and ask:

I had this setup for awhile with the creative 2.1 and sony xplod speakers.  It was OK but it always seemed like an all or nothing bet with the volume and I wasn't too thrilled with the bass response.  I switched it out for a logitech z5300 in 2.1 mode with the sony xplod's.  In may be a little overkill but man does it sound sweet!
