Older Dual PC Gameport Gun System from ActLabs
« on: February 21, 2003, 08:49:26 pm »
While looking around ebay I found this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3402598919&category=3759

Any chance this would work with MAME???

from http://www.act-labs.com/gun2.htm
"ACT LABS GS - Dual PC Gameport Gun
Clearance Price: $14.99 - DISCONTINUED
Download v1.04 GS Drivers

ATTENTION WINDOWS 2000/XP USERS :

Unfortunately the GS and SGA light gun products are not compatible with Windows 2000 or Windows XP. This is due to a hardware incompatibility issue and cannot be resolved by drivers. Therefore, drivers for Windows 2000 and XP are not available for these products. The GS and SGA light guns are compatible with Windows 95/98 ONLY. If you are wanting a light gun for 2000 or XP, the upcoming USB Gun will meet your needs. "

Obviously one would need win98, which I have duel booting already.
Any idea?
...they only live twice!...

it's my understanding that they aren't very accurate... there's an old thead about these and to put it mildly I guess they suck for MAME

The old gameport guns are horrible.. you can try to use mouse emulation for MAME, but it sucks due to the wacky resolutions (and the way it works).. in fact, the only game that ever worked worth a damn was Die Hard 2 for PC (even the in-box demos don't work right).. and it sucks because the gameport apparently doesn't handle such a high-bandwidth device very well (ie: things get jerky when you pull the trigger too rapidly).

I've already thrown away one gun from my set of two and am only keeping the 2nd and the base to see if the innards can be retrofitted into a GunCon or something cool looking and made to work right (with a non-shi^.^ty trigger -- another major design flaw passed on to the new models).  If so then I may buy the TV version after I read some reviews..

Also worth mentioning is the lack of XP drivers and the fact that Act-Labs doesn't support these any more.

But if you still want a set, e-mail me.. I've got a Power Glove you may be interested in ;D..  ::)

BS, the guns work great with any MAME32 game and are very accurate. If you are using Win 98 these are the way to go.
