Cocktail Questions...Kind of...
« on: March 13, 2006, 04:11:29 pm »
I have a MS Pacman cocktail...I was wondering if it's possible to have the PCB, and a PC using a regular 21" PC monitor inside?  Obviously switchable, between the two...
I would be changing the monitor, and adding a PC...Is this an arcade faux pas?

Thanx.

I don't see why not. Just don't cut any holes, or make any permanant damage - or the RGVAC police will give you the smack down. Plus, it would be a shame to mess up a classic - even if there are eleventy brazillion (Not sure of the spelling here - Drew? ) of them out there.

I was playing with it a little last night, and I don't think it was originally a MS Pac...there is an extra leaf switch inside the CP's...they're just sitting there...I assume they were a fire button at one point...
The CP has the MS Pac overlay, but in the front there is a different colour scheme, but I don't know from what game...kinda looks like Galaxian or Galaga colours...I'll look at Klov, and see if I can find something that matches...

Well, I'm not at home to take pictures of the control panels, but I have couple of photos where you can see the them...

The first is the top, with the MS Pac overlay...

The second, you can see the colouring  of what is under the MS Pac CPO...

Looks like it was a Super Pac Man.

When I look at the picture of the Super Pac, it does look  like it could be...

I would keep that as a dedicated game.  Running the ms pac board on a pc monitor would require a scan converter.  If it were in my posession I might even convert it back to a super pac.  Making a mame cocktail can be very easy.  You can even get a kit for it at www.arcadedepot.com
Just my personal preference...I realize there are a ton of those cocktails out there and it can be a little cheaper to convert than to build, I just think most dedicated should stay dedicated.

I don't think I'll conver it...I doubt I'll put it back to Super Pacman either...I love MS Pac...the art work and everything is in pretty good shape, so I may just clean it up...put new T-molding, etc...
BUT FIRST...i have to get the monitor working...

It's more valuable as a Ms Pac anyways.
Keep the original monitor.
NO MORE!!

Yeah...I'm going to take it out, and bring it to someone to test/fix...if you suggest someone in the GTA or Richmond Hill area, I'd appreciate it...I got the name of one guy in RH...I'll probably end up taking it to him, if no one knows of anyone else...
I've looked at schematics, manuals and parts lists...I don't htink I have what it takes to get it working...

Grauwulf on CGCC seems to be very good and is a good guy, although he is in London (you could mail the chassis easily enough).

menace (here and on CGCC) may alsobe able to help, but I am not sure where he is located.

Cheers.

That's the guy I called before...he says he can do it, and apparently he's close to me...
He seemed to be very interested in coming to my house and picking up the monitor though...I told him I could drop it off a couple of times, and he suggested we meet somewhere...I would much rather drop it off somewhere, so I know where I can go to pick it up...it would be just my luck that he would pick it up, and I'd never see it again...
Has anyone ever dealt with this guy?

Seriously. I would get an address from the guy, or no deal. If he has really been in business for 25 years, then that shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, that's what I'll try to do...
Anyone know hoe to get a monitor out of these things??  I looked at it, and it seems I have to remove the glass to get at something holding it in place, otherwise there are only 4 small screws at the bottom, holding it in place...
