Happ Mechanical Rotary Joystick
« on: February 21, 2003, 05:37:38 pm »
Has anyone here used the Happ Mechanical Rotary sticks with Druin's interface?  I'm about to build my first cabinet and I'll definitely get the joysticks, but I'm not sure whether to get them in addition to or in place of Happ competition sticks.
Street Fighter II will get as much or more play time as any other single game and I don't want to play with the rotary sticks if they significantly impact the gameplay or the feel of the sticks.  On the other hand I don't want the extra expense of the competition sticks if the rotary joysticks feel and play great for those games.
I thought for a while about using the optical rotary sticks and saving the $50 by interfacing with the existing optipac instead of buying druins interface, but decided that I wanted an authentic Ikari Warriors feel.

Here's somebody who interfaced them with Druin's interface.

I would suggest trying them out with Street Fighter II before deciding whether you would get them in addition to or in place of Happ competition sticks.  They're supposed to be the perfect solution to that, but who knows?  Maybe it would be too weird to have the joystick clicking when you do a fireball.

I have the SNK LS-30's and they are NOT good for Street Fighter (for reasons that shouldn't apply to the Happs Rotaries).
