Powerstrip & VGAarcade card?? EDIT: Now sorted, picture quality is excellent!!!

If i have a VGAarcade card, do i need to use powerstrip program as well??

We are talking an ultimarc ArcadeVGA card  here I guess?  In which case no you don't as the card I believe handles all the low res outputs in hardware.

I don't think from all my time using powerstrip that it can output a modern graphics card at the low frequencies required to do the job.  Its the hardware that stop it.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, as I dont actually own one of these but have experience with powerstrip and spent some time researching the ArcadeVGA card as I was going to use one originally.

You do NOT need to use powerstrip if you have the ArcadeVGA from Ultimarc. All the hard work has been done for you and is already setup in the card.

Powerstrip CAN get modern graphics cards to output at 15Khz - in fact it is the only way I know of doing this in recent Windows and recent graphics cards.

Note that powerstrip will specifically NOT work with the ArcadeVGA because its a custom modified card.

Ok, then i may have a problem, as i have a vga to scart cable, and have just tried it on my TV, put the picture scrolls really fast (something to do with V sync???) I thought powerstrip may sort this problem, but if i cannot use it with the Ultimarc card then i dont know what to try

You might need to tie both Syncs together with a resistor.

If you are using a regular the TV, the the arcadeVGA ouput will be compatible with it.

Your problem is almost definately not the output from your card, but in the connection from pc to tv or in the tv.

A vertically rolling picture suggests that the tv is not detected the vsync correctly. Some tv's expect a composite sync, some expect seperate, several can deal with both. You can (I believe) just physically connect the H and V sync output from the VGA card together to get a composite sync that will work (this is not technically perfect, but I think the arcadeVGA uses negative syncs so you can do this). If you have just purchased a VGA to scart lead then the chances are good that it does not do this.

The first thing I would do is check wiring of your VGA to SCART lead. If you satisfy yourself that it is all wired correctly and the syncs are getting to the tv, the next step I would take would be to open the scart connecter and wire the H and V syncs together with a peice of wire, and then test....

Got it to work now, i had to solder pin 14 & 13 together on the vga connector end, so V & H sync from the vga end (pin 13&14) go to one sync on the scart end pin 20 on the scart plug i believe. The picture quality in amazing!!!!. There is no need for us UK players, to splash out on expensive Arcade monitors, when we can fit a 30" TV  in our cabs! I cannot tell any differences in picture quality from this TV to my WG K7000 25" monitor im using at the moment. Apart from the colours on my TV are alot better  . Now time to find the service code for this TV to sort out the overscan. Thanks guys
