Wiring question
« on: March 06, 2006, 10:57:28 am »
Can't seem to find what I'm looking for, so perhaps someone can shed some light on this.

What I would like to do is wire up the cab to use a coin mech when I want to use tokens, or press say Player 1 AND Player 2 to trigger a credit.

Now, my question is, since they share a common ground, how can I make this a dual purpose? I would think that even if I wired these in series, it would still trigger no matter what since each button is already grounded?

If this is a MAME driven cabinet using either a KeyWiz or Ipac encoder, then that functionality is already built in without having to "double-wire" a button.

Please let us know what encoder you are using.

Keywiz Eco.

The easiest way is to wire up a dedicated Shazaaam button.  The default for adding a Player 1 coin is to hold the Shazaaam key and press the P1 Start button.

Are you able to put a dedicated Shazaam button (it won't have any other function) either on your CP or mounted below it where no one can see it?

You could also wire the Shazaaam button to generate Start one - like I mention in "I-PAC compatibility mode" at http://www.mameworld.net/tigerheli/encoder/shiftkeys.htm, but

Couldn't you just configure MAME so Coin 1 was "5 or 1 AND 2", or did I miss something obvious again.

Once again you have shown you are the man.  Why do the simple solutions always escape me?

Actually, I did miss something obvious, I think - - -

(Goes back to an early Ultimarc discussion)

You press P1 Start and P2 Start to generate a credit.  Then you try to press P1 Start and P2 Start again to insert another credit and MAME starts.

You can't start a 2P game . . . unless.

If you press 2P Start and THEN 1P Start, you should be okay (but you still can't put in 15 credits).

or

you use some other button combination like Pause and 1P Start inserts a coin.

I didn't think it could be that simple - sorry.

Dedicated Shazaaam! button is a good option also. . .
