Sticking Stick!?!?!?
« on: March 03, 2006, 09:33:47 pm »
hi, I am assembling and wiring my control panel on my first cabinet and I have found that one of my Brand new Mag Stk plus's I ordered from Ultimarc is sticking and NOT RECENTERING from either the North or South position. The East/West seem to work fine. I am certain Andy will swap it out for me, but I would like to know if anyone here has had that problem and might know of a way to fix it. Since Andy is in the UK and I am in Southern Cal I would much rather fix or adjust it than tie up 2 or 3 weeks in the mail.

Thanks for any help or suggestions,

Lon

Yes! This is usually caused by having the connectors attached to the switches the wrong way round.....

Check that your connectors are attached to the ground and the NO (normally open) connectors on the stick switches.

And check that you don't have them reversed, with the ground lead on the NO connection.

I think that may well be the problem here.

Thanks for the Reply Fozzy, However it sticks even without wires connected. I took it apart , removed it from the control panel, reassembled it and now it seems to work on 3 sides, but wont recenter from the fourth. However if I change it from 8way to 4 way it seems to recenter from all 4 sides. This has me quite confused.

Ahhhh! OK I understand now.... we're talking about a mechanical sticking... not the switch appearing to stay closed after pushing the stick in that direction.

Looks like a dodgy stick or at least poor original assembly.... If you've now got it working in three directions, then it's more than likely poor alignment somwhere or a rough moulding. While you've got it apart, chack that there's no rough edges on the plastic moldings anywhere where the shaft makes contact.
