OMNI-Stik
« on: March 03, 2006, 12:54:12 am »
OK, I did a quick search but didn't really see what I was looking for.  For anyone that has the OMNI-Stiks from GGG, how do you like that?  I am looking for a 4/8 joystick to use in my cocktail.  It would be used a lot for Donky Kong, Pacman, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter.

Thanks
I b**ch. People listen!!

I've been curious about them myself and was trying to find some info yesterday, to no avail.  I'm finishing up converting the smallest bedroom in my house to an office with a built-in wraparound desktop, and I'm going to be left with enough wood and prefabbed formica countertop to build a box for a basic control panel, and I'm still not sure which stick to put in it.

I'd been looking at the Supers, due to ponyboy's prices and the reviews it's gotten, but the Spinner Wars had gotten me looking at Randy's stock.  If the Omni-stik Basic was better than the Super, I may go that route.  I don't necessarily need the 4-way, but it'd be nice to have just in case.

My plans are to hack a few controllers into the box, wiring them all to Cat 5 patch panel parts.

I have the Prodigies, which are basically the same stick with above the panel switching.

Haven't used anything else (besides PC joysticks) to compare to though.

Excellent stick in 4-way mode for 4-way games.

Works well in 8-way games, but the throw is considerably shorter than the IL (Happ) sticks, so that takes a bit of getting used to . . .

I'm not sure if you're already aware of the site,  but  at
www.retroblast.com  I've found some good reviews. Look under hardware/ joysticks.
