boycotting Christian and/or Randy
« on: February 28, 2006, 11:01:11 pm »
i'm concerned about so many people saying they'll never buy from christian and/or randy because of their recent posts in this forum.

these guys run small businesses serving a very limited market, and they're both making a great contribution. i couldn't be more pleased with the custom panel slikstik made to my specifications, and christian was easy to work with throughout the half-dozen-or-so phone conversations i had with him. i haven't yet bought anything from ggg, but i can tell from reading byoac that randy is also doing a great job. (i also think he has the superior technical argument in this "discussion" and hope his spinner lives up to its billing.) i hope both of them stay in business for a long time.

you're all entitled to make your buying decisions any way you like, but i'd encourage everyone to pay more attention to the merits of the products and services offered than to the "colorful" personalities. that is the best way to advance the state of the art.

Honestly I think it's a bunch of steam blowing.  I believe most of the people who said they would never buy from so and so again probably were not planning on it anyway.

It seems that all of the Manufacturer/Sellers in this forum have strong opinions and are not afraid to lay it out there.  This could be one part of there personalities that make them successful.

It is an individuals right to decide not to buy from someone for whatever reason.  If I was one of these sellers I don't think I would concern myself with the I will never buy from you again crowd.  If they continue to make a quality product that fits the bill and the budget they will continue to make sales (the beauty of capitalism).

Don't sweat it.  There are a lot of these kinds of threads in BYOAC history, with both of these guys, and neither one of them has gone out of business because of it.

The best thing to do when these pop up, is to let them blow over, and drop into history.  More posts on the subject just prolong the unpleasantness.

I think they should both get representative hot chicks in bikinis to mud wrestle, with the winner deciding who keeps making a spinner.

It is not how they react to each other that matters.  What matters is how they react to legitimate questions from their customers.

I suggest a face off... a game of warlords/arkanoid/and breakout using their spinners. 2 out of 3 wins....

The loser has to put a link to the competitions website on their page.

Hey, buy from whomever...  SS, GGG, Oscar & Ultimarc.  We should be happy we have a choice.  As we are a small market and we all should be thankful because if it wasn't for these groups, we'll all be trying to hack a keyboard or create our own encoders or spinners.

Darn it...
PC took a crap... been working on a bunch of Mame PC's
seems loike I missed something.
let me go pop some pop corn, crab a few beers and see what I missed.

as far as Randy goes... I HAVE bought off him and will do so again...
Sure he comes off a bit rash but I have learned to let that slide off my back.
all and all he is a top notch person to deal with.
I even placed a order in just before Xmas ( like on the 19th of Dec and had it before Xmas, Money order at that. From my house and back in under a week!) Yep I call that top notch  ;)

It's funny because back in the day (5 years ago) That is how I made my spinner and CP was hacks. It made for a good story when someone was playing it. Yeah, I took apart a hard drive and...

I just got my 49 ways and encoders from Randy last night. It is solid stuff. The encoder is heavy and well constructed. Andy's stuff is the same way. I have not ordered any SlickStick stuff. Not because I don't like it, I just found offerings more suited to my taste from Randy and Andy.

I have bought from all the vendors and will continue buy from whomever I feel has the best product for what I'm trying to do.  Even if I didn't like one of them, I would still feel the need to use the best product.  I don't like to compromise when designing and building.

So far, I have only bought from AndyWarne.  GGG did not exist at the time and SS didn't sell encoders.  As it is now, SS still don't sell anything I would buy.  I am interested in some stuff at GGG that no one else offers.

I will not buy a spinner from anyone.  I am very happy with my homemade spinner that was constructed almost entirely from parts that I bought at ACE hardware.  I WILL be borrowing some of the design ideas from the various posts to build a DOT spinner.

If RobotronNut is some sort of legume he's probably ok, but if he's packaged in the same factory as a standard peanut, he's probably already being boycotted by a number of school cafeterias. Peanut alergies are dangerous, and if RN is promoting them, then we really should thinking about giving him the icy shun.

I dunno what the "icy shun" is, but if it's like a figure 4 leglock or a sleeper hold, I'm all for doing that.

Now I'm not sure if I should boycott RayB for his decidedly negative stance on RN, or if I should just let the marketplace decide who I should give the icy shun to.  I think there should be some sort of " - off".  I've got it!  The first one to post a sequence of words that utilize a "q", an "f" in the form of "ph", and two silent "k"s in the same word is the one we don't give the icy shun.

The icy shun is a special form of ostracism practiced by the lower Iowan Mennonites as a punishment for religious violations occuring during harvest.
