Need help wiring a coin door to Hortrod encoder
« on: February 26, 2006, 04:21:06 am »
Should've opened my Hotrod SE controller earlier... then I might have just forgotten about the whole thing....

I've gotten through building my first cab, but I'm still a newbie at this....

I just recently purchased and installed coin mechs for the coin door on my compact cab and was planning on wiring the coin mechs to the same place on the encoder the "coin buttons" on the my Hotrod control panel are wired.  When I opened up the controller to take a look at the encoder tonight, it looks nothing like what I was prepared for.  Even if I could make trace the maze of wires, I wouldn't know how to connect them.

I'm wondering if I really have to mess with the encoder and is it possible to somehow connect both the button microswitches and the coin mech microswitches in a "Y" like fashion to the wires that go to the encoder.

Anyone else done this with a HotRod or have any suggestions?

Thanks

BobA

I had to add to my hotrod and used automotive connectors that allow you to splice in another wire to and existing wire.  It basically splits the insulation and taps another wire in where you need it.
I think they are called T Taps and the red ones are for small gauge wires.

Great idea.. I remember using those when I was hacking the fog lights on my car a little while back.

I went ahead and picked some up from Walmart this afternoon along with some quick disconnects.  I wired up one mech and everything seems to be working as desired.  Thanks for the tip! :D
