Bittorrent Programs
« on: February 23, 2006, 10:04:27 am »
I've been using Azureus, but it keeps shutting down for no apparent reason.

Anybody using something different that's better?

Bitcomet has been banned by most of the good tracker sites out there because it gets hacked daily.

I use azureus just fine.   I use it for the plugins.  Like the scheduler plugin so during the day speeds are slower and isp doesn't get mad.

I originally used bittornado as that seemed to be most popular.  Depending on the number of torrents you want running will dictate the amount of ports you forward and the number of torrent windows open.  I switched to uTorrent as it only requires 1 port, doesn't need java to run like Azureus but does everything the same.  Allows you to que up as many torrents as you like and they'll be processed based on the up/down settings.  Shows enough statistics and seems to work very well.

Odd, I just switched to uTorrent (I was using BitTornado) because of the scheduler!  My ISP wasn't getting mad, but my wife didn't like it when I left large torrents downloading during the day and she couldn't read her email.

I have only been using it since yesterday, but I am really impressed so far.

Why can't she read her email?  There are settings to say "only when PC is inactive", aren't there?

Oh I understand that.  As I'm an old schooler that still users IRC to get stuff.  And sometimes I use Bit Torrent sites as well.   But I rather pay to find some missing files that are missed on a IRC pack or to get quick downloads.  As finding stuff thats missing or to replace corrupt files can be a pain on IRC or Bit Torrent.

Besides the amount you do pay for a usenet account is far cheaper then the costs of that file.

My configuration must be messed up though...on my best days I get like a combined 15k download.

Any hints?

I used to agree with this train of thought... but torrents are now ubiquitous.  I very rarely CAN'T find what I'm looking for on the torrent sites I frequent.  I have no use for usenet any longer.  Now, before its mentioned, no.. you can't find "everything" on torrents... but I find everything I need personally.

I haven't used usenet or IRC for over a year at least to get files.

Yes.  But you can't beat the speed of usenet.  Nothing like getting a 3 gig file pack in 10 mins.

Mainly because we use seperate PC's.

If I have a torrent going, she sometimes get's "connection refused" errors.  It seems to happen more often as the upload rate goes up.

I have changed my nickname to "Cakemeister". Please do not PM the Buddabing account because I do not check it anymore.
