chuck e. cheese tokens 2/$.25 coupon
« on: February 22, 2006, 05:09:47 pm »
People always talkin around here about going to get some tokens from CEC for home use.  Just saw this coupon posted where you get twice as many for the same price.  Pretty good deal.

How young do you have to be to qualify as a kid?  29 too old?

I need to go rent some kids from someone so I can go back to where I grew up :) ... recently uncovered some old photos from like 20 some odd years ago at the original Chuck E Cheese out in San Jose.

All the classics were there :)   ... except they were new

They barely have any videogames any more.  Mostly redemption games.

Yeah, CEC is a shell of its former self.  Good source of gameroom tokens, though. They run all sorts of token deals.

CEC trivia- Chuck E. Cheese NEVER sells any of their equipment. Service techs are instructed to demolish the games with a sledgehammer and send photos to the corporate office. When CEC bought out Circus Pizza here locally, they had a bunch of equipment they couldn't or wouldn't use, even though some pieces were nearly new and fully functional.

It was like a snuff film. Whammo.

I don't mean to be an ass but isn't this technically stealing?  CEC obviously didn't intend for you to walk out with 500 tokens that you plan to keep.  They're selling "credits" on the games in their store, not the tokens themselves.

They might get the tokens cheap enough in bulk that it's not costing them anything, but it's still the principle of the thing.

I want my own arcade controls!

Stealing is charging your kid 500 points for a plastic hotwheels ripoff car at the redemption booth. :)

The tokens are purchased to be used with a service that they provide: namely the ability to play their arcade games. Since I am not utilizing that service, then I consider the tokens bought and paid for. Do they stand by the door and make sure you use all your tokens before you leave? No! They build a certain number of loss into each run, and make more when needed. Besides, at the volume they produce tokens at, they most likely cost on average of a few cents to produce, which I pay far more for when I buy them.

Technically, you are an ass.

Some more trivia for you...  I'm currently reading: "The Ultimate History of Videogames" and it says that Nolan Bushnell, the creator of Atari, originally created CEC.  Interesting, eh?  If you haven't read this book, I highly suggest it, esp. for the videogame afficionados on this board.

This is part of the selling points of having tokens for your business.  Even if the customer walks away with all of the tokens they still make money.  CEC buys so many tokens they probably get them for a much lower rate than we are, even with a coupon.

Don't take my word for it though.. take a look at what the Hoffman mint says: (http://www.hoffmanmint.com/tokens.html)

Price Flexibility - You can easily change the number of tokens sold per dollar to immediately take advantage of any marketing or promotional ideas.

Immediate Sale - When you sell your tokens, you have made a sale. The token does not need to be used immediately. If it is not used, you still make a profit. These "walk-away" tokens encourage repeat business.

Security - Nobody will break into your business or coin operated machines to steal tokens. You can keep your quarters in the bank where they belong instead of the coin boxes.

The assertion that "you still make a profit" is made because they're working under the assumption that those tokens are going to be used in your establishment at a later date.   Which, in this case, they're not.

The token does not need to be used immediately. If it is not used, you still make a profit. These "walk-away" tokens encourage repeat business.

The CEC tokens that walk out the door in the pocket of a BYOACer aren't ever coming back to CEC and certainly aren't encouraging business for CEC.

They make a profit even if you never come back.  Walk away tokens is they typically encourage, not guarantee, return business.

Here is some words from Roger Williams mint.

Custom dies cost $175.00 per side.

We usually store the die here for you at no charge. If we store the die there is no replacement charge should it become defective over time. If it leaves our building, all maintainence fees are your responsibility. The reorder cost would be $95.00 1,000 plus freight. Quantity breaks are:
 3,000 @ $72.00 per 1,000
 5,000 @ $62.00 per 1,000
Sincerely,
Tom Vermillion
508 226 3310

Once you have the custom die created, tokens are inexpensive. I would bet CEC orders more than 5,000 per order.  Even at 5,000 you are looking at 6.2 cents per token.  We are buying them at 12.5 cents per token.  Sounds like they are making a good profit to me, even if you don't use them.

They still make a profit, any way you do it. Even with the coupon, me paying 12.5 cents for a 3 cent (just a guess, but probably not far off) token makes them money. Bought and paid for. Besides, with two kids - they DO get repeat business from me.

Besides, I'm doing them a favor - this way they don't keep re-circulating the same tokens, which will get all scratched up and dull. Now they need to make new, shiny, pretty tokens that all the boys and girls love...

 ;)

Alright, I own a couple hundred CEC tokens from previous "Birthday Parties" that I was "forced" to attend and the only problem I see with getting any CEC tokens is that they don't fit into the 25

I go there with my kids every couple of months.  Keep in mind that coupon is misleading.  Regular price is $10 for 50 tokens... so $12.50 for 50 is raising the price before they offer the coupon deal.

No, we're too cheap to buy food there.  We eat first and then go, buy $10 worth of tokens, and leave when the tokens are gone.  It is definitely 50 tokens for $10 at the one we go to.
