Newbie question on touch screens
« on: February 22, 2006, 02:31:59 am »
Do all thin touchscreens im seeing on ebay have a nice hard glass surface? or are they soft like LCD laptop screens? Also in touchscreen jukebox software does a mouse pointer show or is it invisible to the user? Thanks for any help guys...

Well it depends on what type of touchscreen you buy, LCD or CRT. Crt is hard glass like a TV or standard PC Monitor and LCD is like a laptop screen. The touchscreen part is just an overlay built onto an existing display technology.

As for the mouse pointer showing that depends on the software, i have the ability to turn it off in mine. If the option doesn't exist you can still remove the mouse pointer using the windows mouse pointer themes and a blank mouse pointer theme.

If you want a touch screen that is glass, then you want a "secure touch" monitor. If you buy a touchscreen that was used in a kiosk, then it will most likely have this type. There are some that are glass, but have a film over it. Then you have Carroll Touch, which is a glass screen, but is done with IR instead of touch. You can use gloves even with those.

You can find more info about the different types of screens at http://www.elotouch.com

3M makes Microtouch LCD monitors that are 10" - 12". There have been a couple on ebay recently.
