Key mapping help with GP-WIZ 32?
« on: February 20, 2006, 03:24:25 pm »
Greetings, all.  I'm just getting started building my first 'real' MAME controller.  I got a GP-WIZ 32 ECO, and apparently it sends only joystick commands.  I've found a little info on key mapping, but I can't find any references to joystick buttons over #10, and according to the WinXP joystick hardware info, it's a single 2-axis joystick with 28 buttons.  How do I access buttons 11-28?  Does anyone have an example config file for the GP-WIZ 32 ECO, especially one that works with MAME32 0.104u1?  Thanks for any info.

While a MAME game is running hit the TAB key.  Go to INPUT (all games).  Go to each line where you want to assign a GP-Wiz input and hit ENTER.  Press whichever button you want and it will be mapped in MAME.

You may want to go ahead and delete your default.cfg file and any other .cfg files for specific games so that they all pick up the new configuration.

Huh.  I tried that before, and it wouldn't recognize any commands from the GP-WIZ....but now it magically works.  I guess it wasn't recognizing any input from the controller, but now it works fine.  The name format changes above Key 16, though, oddly enough....but it works.  Thanks for the tips on the CFG files, that's a lot easier than re-editing everything in-game.
