How Frustrating!!!
« on: February 20, 2006, 11:56:26 am »
I'm Almost done with my 4 player portable mame cab. and I pulled the plastic off the 1/8 in. plexiglass and the "pros" down at TAP Plastics cracked it in 2 places.

Has anyone had similar problems?
Did you have to fight to get them to redo the job?

When I brought back the prexiglass they were actually pretty embarassed
that the piece had made it out of their shop.  Mabye the mistakes were made by a new employee who didn't want to get in trouble for wasting material? who knows... anyway their back on my B- list.

Did you have them cut it to a custom shape, or did you just have a simple rectangle cut to size? Just curious because in 25+ purchases I have never had a single problem with them, although I patronize the San Mateo store.

Also, at TAP I'll always go for the paper backed cast Acrylite GP... it's always machines waaay better for me and I've never had a problem working with 1/8" GP, whereas I have had a couple issues in the past when working with the more economical plastic backed FF series in 1/8".

The FF sheets seem to never be perfect either, with what little protection the thin plastic offers.

I had them cut it to shape... I left the mdf control top with all the holes drilled in ti at their shop to use as a template. It's like a stretched out octagon shape with 4 controller holes and 29 button holes.  I don't think it's the easiest thing they've done before... but... that's what their paid for.
Anyway, like I said... they're re-doing it right now and I pick it up after work... That means my project will be done tonight except for the t-molding.
Yes! ... This arcade building stuff sure is rewarding.

Interesting, so for the first round they actually let you take a damaged piece as a finished product...  I thought they might have just trimmed some stock and not seen the cracks, which would be somewhat reasonable. It must be a YMMV situation, I really like the guys in the backroom at my TAP.
