Trackball Help...
« on: February 19, 2006, 03:10:17 pm »
I am having a problem with my Imperial Trackball.  When I play a game like Centipede etc, the ball works fine.  When I play a game that requires a hard roll, like Golden Tee, or a bowling game, the ball seems to "jump" when i roll it.

I opened up my trackball, and the third roller (not the x or y axis) seems to be much stiffer than the other 2.   I took this roller out, and put it in the slot for the x or y roller, and it spins wonderfully, but in its own spot it barely rolls. I also noticed that the roller and barings seem to almost snap tightly into its slot, where the x and y rollers seems to almost loosely sit there.  I hope you understand what I mean.

Any Ideas??

Try making sure the screws on your trackball are not to tight, this can cause issues like this

Im guessing it the barings them self.  I guess this could happen but its would be rare that theres a bump in the trackball

The bearings seem fine, i swapped them with the bearing on the other rollers and they worked fine.

Its almost like the side of the bearing touches the plastic on area that holds them, not allowing the roller to spin freely.  I was thinking of trying to sand down the plastic a tiny bit, but i dont want to wreck anything, as the trackball is very playable, other than this little issue.

Sanding it should work just be careful.  Use the highest grit that you can find tho.
