How far does T-molding stick out?
« on: February 15, 2006, 07:14:00 pm »
Been doing some searching, and I came across one site that lists the "height" of the t-molding sticks out 3/8". This seems a bit much, can anyone confirm this? The reason I ask is that I am making swappable panels and would like to put t-molding around the edge for durability. This raises the issue of how much should I cut the panel down to compensate for the t-molding, as the end-to-end length cannot exceed 28 1/2" - I can't have any overhang on the length, but I'm ok on the width.

I'm still waiting for the t-molding and slot cutter to come in, but wanted to start on the panel. Thanks for any help!

I think the 3/8" your talking about is the tongue depth.  I think the 19/64" is the measurement you're looking for.

Ya know.. never mind... I'm not thinking right tonight.

Sweet! That was what I was looking for. That's the diagram I came across, and I remembered the 3/8" part. Now 1/16" sounds much better. Strange they left that one measurement out, you'd think people would want to know that one... Thanks guys!

if these measurements are correct then it would stick out 5/64'' which is 1/64 bigger then 1/16''.  although thats probably small enough to not matter.
