Speakers with External Volume Control - $20
« on: February 08, 2006, 10:16:09 am »
Happened upon these online last night.  Creative Labs speakers that have a wired remote that could probably be worked into a cab easily (or just have it hang out the bottom or something.

Anyway, in case anyone is interested...  For only $20...

Those look similar (but smaller) than the Creative Labs Inspire T3000 that seem to routinely go on sale (or have rebates) at Circuit City.    People seem to really like the T3000s, but they're $49.99 regularly.   For a non-rebate out the door price, this looks like a good deal to me.  Thanks for the heads up, kelemvor.

just to chime in, i got my t300 set for 10 bucks from circuit city.  20 dollars from circuit city and another 20 from creative.  i use them on my regular comp and put an old set of boston accoustics in my cab.  they're nice (the t300's).

Just thought I'd update this...

I picked up these speakers yesterday from Walmart.  Testing them out today playing some MP3 and they actually sound pretty good.  I do get some crackling it I crank up the bass and then crank up the volume but at normal settings they sound surprising good.

Will definitely try them out a bit and see how everything goes.

The two small speakers are about 3"-4" square and the sub is about 9" tall, 6"; wide, and 7"-8" deep.

By looking through the front grill and estimating...  I'd say the roudn speaker part by itself is right about 2.5" in diameter.

I got this same deal at Circuit City as well. I have seen the offer another time or two so perhaps they do it regularly. Keep an eye on the Sunday paper. These speakers are great!

I bought the Walmart $20 speakers today for my cocktail WIP.

They're okay.  They're certainly not the best speakers, but certainly get loud enough.  In fact, they're TOO loud and when I crank up the volume control, I quickly reach exceptional levels (and distortion).  I literally have to turn my overall system volume AND my WinAmp volume wayyyy down to get to a level where cranking up the speaker's volume control doesn't sound like it's going to blow the speakers.

In any case, my biggest gripe is that there's no tone (treble/bass) control.  If it wasn't for that fact, I'd recommend these to everybody.  But even at a low price of $20, I wouldn't want to use these for my day-to-day computer use with no tone control on the speakers.   For my cab, OTOH, I think they'll be fine.  Those old-school video games sound okay through these.

Yeah, but 12 bucks shipping...

I have one set and love them.   Looking for a second pair... missed the last circuit city sale :(
