You never told me how sweet it was...
« on: February 07, 2006, 09:59:46 am »
So last night I finished all of the wiring on my cabinet's control panel. I plugged the minipac in and *BAM* it worked like a charm (after I switched the up and down cables).

So I fire up MAMEWah and start "testing" it out. Golden Axe rocks, Ms. Pac Man is a bueat, and now the real test: Hyper Sports. I bang the heck out of the buttons and swim like nobody's business.

It just rocks so hard after all this time. Thanks for all the knowledge posted on this great board.

Quick question though: On a Happs Super, which way should the bottom hourglass thingy be for 8-way. Right now I have the wider end on the bottom. Is that correct?

Thanks again.

That is correct. If you move the stick in a circle, you should hear 8 distinct clicks.  If you only hear 4, you have in on upside down.

8 clicks? Do you mean the switch clicking in once then out once x 4? Wouldn't 4-way mode still sound like that too?

All I want to know is...

how is it that you couldn't infer that it was going to be supremely sweet... especially considering that we've written over 400 topics   revolving around arcade stuff on this message board alone.

I would think so ...

And, to be clear for the OP, the big end needs to be what cause the switches to click (top and bottom can be confusing depending on how you view the joystick).

Cheers.

Sure, if you do it slowly.  If you rotate fairly quickly then there are only 4 distinct clicks when in 4-way mode.  One engages and one dis-engages at just about the same time.

You can definitely hear the difference when rotating a super in 4-way versus 8-way mode.
