Mini-Pac
« on: February 06, 2006, 09:55:59 pm »
Hi

Everything was ok for some time, I was even playing some games but today
when I started mamewah it just started scrolling menu all the way down, I can
go up with joy but it soon I let go it start scrolling down on it's own.
I noticed when win 98 was powering up it said Found USB HID device and installed some drivers but I was hoping it was ok. I checked wiring for short but it was ok. In notepad it shows key "j" pressed it just keeps going like jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj......forewer.

Any idea why, it's driving me crazy??

Sorry I'm not sure is this software or Mini-Pac problem?

Thanks

Nah, your switch is stuck down for some reason...

Make sure you got the wire on the NO terminal and that you dont have the terminal on your minipac shorted out somehow to ground.

Common wiring problem.  If those dont work, use a different switch.

No, I checked with ohm meter it was ok, even if I unplug harness from
Mini-Pac it is still hapening....
I'm afraid something with drivers is wrong, not sure.

I doubt it.  If you unplug the harness and it's still happening that means that either the pin of the header is shorted out to ground or that your minipac might have a defect.

It could be a driver issue, but its not very probable that it would only occur with the "j" key...  I think you should directly check the header itself for some reason...

Have you tried it in PS/2 mode?

Ok, that PS/2 mode i think mine doesn't have. There is no jumper on the board. I didn't check main plug I'll do that but I'm not sure witch pin is "j" key...

Checked main plug there is no shorts, no jumpers to set, but my board flashes 6 times on power up even without harness being plugged in.........

Well, Id give Andy a shout in that case because it sounds to me like you have a shorted input somehow.  When the LED flashes several times it means there's an error:

Quote
If inputs test fails: LED flashes a number of times to indicate which switch is shorted or faulty. LED then stays off.

Ok, I tested board for voltage and I don't have +5V on pin 3 & 4
it's 2 SW 7 & 2 SW8 every other pin switch I have +5v it seems
like they are puled down permanently.

Just wandering if I can jumper +5v from some other pins that
are not used to pin 3 & 4???

This may be totally off base but I saw the same problem with scrolling in mamewah before I even had a minipac installed.

I was using a regular PC joystick and if I unplugged the usb cable the next time I plugged it back in I had to calibrate the joystick to keep it from scrolling like you said.

Any chance you have some other device that might need to be calibrated??

No luck, didn't work. They got puled down with those two.
I wish they (sw7,8) can be removed in WinIPAC so it doesn't
see it like error...............

KIck into trouble shooting mode.  J key is joystick player one left.  Is the joystick stuck?  MOve the connection to a botton or another input.  Still stuck?  Is the keyboard leaning on something?  Remap the key and see if it is still stuck.

.. and I hate to mention it but the words USB and Win 98 don't really go together.  :)

Non of above, I did check all that, no luck. It does it with harness unplugged from Mini-Pac. I wish I can bypass those two keys somehow...

I emailed him, he's gonna send me replacement. I was just hoping there is some way around it, well I guess not.

Thanks all for trying.
