Perfect 360s and the X-Arcade PCB
« on: February 13, 2003, 08:53:45 am »
Hey all,

I have a quick question.  Like everyone else, I too am interested in picking up some Perfect 360s from Happs at the $15 discount each.  I am also interested in X-Arcade's PCB kit for putting into a new controller I am going to build (did a cost comparison against the price of hacked controllers, adapters, and my frustration when soldering needs troubleshooting)...

...anyway, since the Perfect 360s need a +5V power to operate correctly, can anyone tell me if (and where) a +5v source exists on the X-Arcade PCB?  Here is a link to the product and image http://xgaming.net/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=XOS&Product_Code=XPCB.

It would appear to me as though the power light (the red LED coming off from the right) might give off a power source.  Anyone else have any information, feedback, or knowledge on this subject?

Thanks for the help.

Chuck

It looks like there could be many places to get a 5v from the pic, although I have no experience with this unit (break out the tester!  :D)  Some people here also use the 5v from a USB cable.

If you have a PC in the cab you can get 5v from USB as already mentioned, you can also get it from the ps/2 port or from a hard drive connector.

If your not going to have a PC you could get a cheap 5v transformer.

Email x-arcade, they should be able to tell you whether or not there product has 5v power available.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

If you look to the right of the LED connector, you'll see some resistors.  One of these is probably cutting down the voltage/current going to the LED, which means it's probably not where you want to try to get your +5v from.

If it turns out that none of the wires coming of the unit can supply 5v, you can solder a wire to the appropriate pin on the PS/2 connector.

Some very good information here and I thank you for it.

Another question now comes to mind...since this PCB is designed to accomodate two players, do I also need to be concerned about finding two +5v power sources for using two perfect 360s or will one power source satisfy them both?

Thanks again for the help.

You're Welcome :).

But this one is a little tougher to answer, as it depends on the power consumption of the joysticks.  There is usually quite a bit of power available at the PS/2 port.  The last fuse I looked at was 3 amps, but I believe this can vary by motherboard.  You need to add up the the current required for each stick and try to figure out what additional current is consumed by that interface.  If you exceed the amount of power available on the port, the fuse on the MB will blow and you'll have a problem.

Without knowing all the specs of everything involved, that's the most I can tell you.

OH MY GOD !  ;D

$15 for p360..great...i cant help you on the power source matter but IF everything else fails then you can maybe use a spare atx powersupply.
and get 5 volt from there(IF EVERYTHING FAILS).
I get the 5volt from ps1 pads(its says right on the pad where the 5volt is).

Sorry for the confusion....I was afraid of this.

$15 is the discount.  The sale price is $25 (down from the original $40).
