EDIT: Sorry, saint, didn't notice it was a sticky ...

You can renew right now, and the renewal will just be added to your current sub.  :)

Renewals and New Subs are treated just the same in the system.

Oh, forgot to mention - I wanted to say "THANKS" to the BYOAC community for their support of RetroBlast, hence a special BYOAC-only GameRoom discount.

It's been a fun ride so far, and I really appreciate all the help and goodwill from everyone here. BYOAC is very much like a family (okay, a dysfunctional family at times, but what family isn't?  ;))

Anyway, there will be future BYOAC-member specials in the future as well, and I thank you for your support (slurps wine cooler...)

Anyone have a summary of what types of articles and features are usually found in this magazine?  Does it specifically talk about MAME and Emulators?  Or does it specifically NOT talk about Mame and emulators and only real systems?

Just a general overview would be great for those of us new to the community.

Just a general overview would be great for those of us new to the community.

It has been more geared towards pins and jukes, with some vid content. I haven't seen any emulator content to date, but you may want to look at this thread on RGVAC where Kevin talks about the future now that RetroBlast has acquired GameRoom Magazine.

You may also want to visit the site and look at some sample articles. Don't miss the Gameroom Gallery.

And finally, while you're at it, be sure to visit RetroBlast.

Cheers.

Wow, Cheffo, thanks for that comprehensive post!

GameRoom has primarily been about coin-op collecting, and that focus will continue. However, even within that "restriction" there is an awful lot of wiggle-room for subjects to cover. I definitely plan on covering arcade emulation - not as much as some here would hope, perhaps, but it will be coming up soon.

I've got a new columnist, David Ellis, who will be writing "The WayBack Machine," a monthly look at pivotal moments in videogaming history. David wrote the "Official Price Guide to Classic Video Games : Console, Arcade, and Handheld Games" (which is reviewed on RetroBlast, btw).

I'm going to be adding more articles about vids, including vid restoration and repair. More pin coverage as well, especially modern (1990-today) pins.

There will still be coverage of jukes, slots, and such. Perhaps not as much as before, but I'm not phasing out anything.

I'm definitely excited about the future of the magazine, and am open to all suggestions about what you'd like to see in future issues.

Excuse me a sec - I've got to go get in my WayBack machine, show up before either of those other examples, and make ours the very first one.

You see, you can do that with a time machine. In fact, we'll probably never know who invents the first time machine, since everyone that follows will keep jumping back earlier and claiming they did it first. (Can you tell I've thought about this far too much?  ::))

Mr. Peabody and his boy Sherman. The Wayback machine was what they called their time machine. :)

PROCRASTINATOR'S SPECIAL! -- ONE DAY EXTENSION!

Today is the LAST day for the $10 off subscription offer for GameRoom Magazine. When I set up the coupon, I set the last day of the coupon to today (March 1st) to allow for those "last minute" subscribers to sneak in under the wire.

If you're a bit behind on your to-do list, better put it aside and put "Subscribe to GameRoom Magazine" first on the list. Today is the last day!

(Remember, you'll need to enter coupon code "BYOAC" during the checkout process!)

The March issue is just now reaching people, it seems, so hopefully you'll see your issue soon.

I'm still fine-tuning the production schedule (read: scrambling madly to adjust to delays from the printer) and the April issue is printing now. With any luck I'll get the schedule back on...um...schedule.  ::)

Hey Kevin, I still haven't received my March issue either (but it's OK as I'd rather start with April anyway) but I'm just curious how many people took advantage of this special and how many people total you have as subscribers and is GRM available to buy on the shelf anywhere?

If you can't (or even don't want to) answer any of these questions, I understand.  Gotta keep some business secrets sometimes.

Well, first off, you should be getting your March issue soon - I just got my "mail test" copy in my mailbox yesterday. The issue was delayed by about two weeks due to production hangups at the printers. April is looking good for an on-time delivery, and I can only hope things continue to go smoothly after that.

As to the subcribers - the coupon was popular, so much so that my store manager complained about all the new business! That said, GameRoom is at about 2100 subscribers right now. It's a number I hope to grow in the upcoming months.

As far as it being available on shelves - not yet. It's a subscriber-only mag at the moment, primarily because of the number of subscribers - there's a point where a publisher can afford to distribute copies to book stores and newsstands, but GameRoom isn't there quite yet.

You see, newsstands make the publisher pay to ship the issues to the newsstands , and then the publisher has to pay to get any unsold issues shipped back. It's just not feasible until you have enough subscribers to drive down the per-unit printing costs so that you can afford to just "throw away" any unsold newsstand copies. ;-)

I'll get GameRoom on newsstands...eventually!

I would also point out that mail can be rather variable in terms of timing ... you guys are worried about March ... I'm waiting on February (periodical class mail can be slow, not Kevin's doing in any way ... I received January about 4 weeks ago, like most of my local compatriots).

Cheers.

Kevin,

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but great job.  I never saw the old version, but the March issue (which I just got today) is great!

I do have one, small, pointless suggestion.  Can you make the address label, either a sticker on or vertical and smaller?  The reason I ask is that the only color is the cover, and the address label area is HUGE!  I can't see the front of the pinball machine!

Like I said, it's a small, tiny suggestion.  The rest of the mag is great and I look forwared to the next issue.

Smiley,

Your wish is my command! Starting with the next issue (April), the magazine will be shipped poly-bagged with the label on the bag. The evil white box, which lived for a grand total of two issues, is already dead!
