Virtual Drive - no cd audio in sega PC game
« on: February 01, 2006, 03:54:24 pm »
i have a question about the sega pc gun games such as virtua squad (cop) and HOTD. How are you guys running this with MUSIC on your cabs? Whenever  I install these, they require the CD in order to play music, I have tried alcahol 120% to mount images, but still no CD audio plays, however when I physically put the CD in the drive and play the game, music works. This is not practical for my cab as I only have one CD ROM and dont want to swap discs whenever I swap between gun games

Virtual Drive - no cd audio in sega PC game

sorry - sleep deprevation has made me a little ga-ga!

I solved this issue. Basicly when you play sega pc games, it searches for CD Audio from the FIRST CD drive only.
I had three CD drives, two physical, one virtual, so obviously it was not playing sound from the virtual one.
Solution was to disable the physical drives in my cab (didnt need them anyway as its wirelessly hooked up to my network for file xfer) which would make the virtual one, drive # 1.

interesting...

did you try swapping the order of the drivers so the virtual was the first driver (letter wise?)...  weird problem on the drivers...  Did you try to install it from the virtual driver?

I have them both, but I haven't put them on my cab yet.... But I don't have a CD in the cab so it shouldn't be an issue... just interesting...  But I always get software running on my desktop before moving it downstairs... so i will see the same thing.

I think its just the sega pc software acting dumb. Most modern games can identify the correct cd drive even if you have multiple.
As you have no cd drive in your cab then it will work. But it probably wont play on your desktop PC due to the issue.

Another thing is , on your cab only set up ONE virtual drive and have a batch file (daemon script) mount images onto it as you launch each game. if you have multiple virtual drives with different sega pc games mounted to each, then only drive #1 will play CD Audio.
