FS: Pre-Hacked PS/2 Mice
« on: January 28, 2006, 10:15:25 am »
I've just found a great source of PS/2 mice that hack *very* well.

US$9.50 each, plus shipping.

I have some parts on order, but can start taking orders immediately.

Good response by all.  I'd advise ordering now, my supply is starting to dwindle.

Wanted to field a question that I had via email.

It was whether or not these had a spinner already attached.

The answer is 'no.'  These are just for the interface to hook either a trackball or a spinner to.

I was going to put a six pin Molex on them all, but if it's easier for me to leave them as-is, I can do that too.

some noob questions here.
This hacked PS2 mouse (or easily hacked) can replace the need for an opti-pac?
Also if i was to use a hacked mouse can i still connect a Ps2 Ipac2?

and lastly
Do you have any of these left?
Thanks!

A spinner and a mouse hack for $9.50!!  How about throwing a trackball in there too.  :P

It can replace the need for an optipac if all you need to do is hook up a single trackball or a single spinner.   You can actually hook up both a trackball and a spinner but then you would need to wire in a switch to allow you to control which device is active.

The optipac allows you to easily hook up both a trackball and a spinner.  It also allows you to hook up to 2 trackballs or 4 spinners.   Your operating system needs to be able to support multiple mice though if you are hooking up 2 trackballs or more than 2 spinners.  It also has screw terminals which allows for easy connection or your optical devices.

If all you are doing is hooking up a single trackball or spinner I would advise on purchasing the mouse hack.  It won't interfere with hooking up your ipac.

But... if I need to hook up 2 joysticks w/6 buttons, and a trackball. then using a mouse hack and the Ipac2 is not advisable/possible?

Sure, why wouldn't it be?

If the mouse hack is good for a single trackball, and an iPac can do all your buttons... why wouldn't you?

Your trackball would go into the PS2 port for your mouse, and the iPac would go into your USB port or your PS2 port for keyboard.

Please forgive me for asking what is probably an obvious question, but after looking through the faqs and doing a basic search, I can't figure out which, er, hack this is 'Pre-Hacked' for...

:)

Would someone be willing to perhaps provide some direction?

:)

Thanks,

Lharles

This allows you to connect a spinner (for games like Tempest) or a trackball (for games like Centipede) without having to use an opti-pac or similar encoder.
