wiring an old monitor...HELP!!!
« on: April 15, 2002, 06:40:38 am »
Hi guys...  I have an old RCA 13" (i think) monitor...  looks like it was out of a video poker game, by the slight burn-in.

Anyway.  It's got a row of 6 pins, a small break, and a row of 3 pins....  X X X X X X     X X X    <--like so.  No labels.

I have a set of original Phoenix boards that I wanna test the video output on.  I've got common, red, blue, and green, and I believe a negative sync.

What goes where?  Any ideas?  Please write back ASAP

okay, since you guys ain't any help...   :P    I guessed, and got the wiring correct (I think)...  however, it's a horizontal monitor, and I'm running vertical boards through it, so it's sideways (which is not a problem, since I can just mount the display on its side)

The problem is that the screen is split, with the top of the game at the bottom, and the bottom at the top (bottom AFTER I turn the display)  And I'm all out of "horizontal adjustment" I think...

What do I do?  any suggestions?  is there a physical adjustment on old monitors? some "bands" or something like that?

pssh...  you people are useless...  yet again, I had to figure it out MYSELF.

turns out the monitor I'm using has a separate connector for NEGATIVE sync.  The pins I had jumped my sync wire to were positive sync, which just confuses the aiming of the monitor.

I downloaded a manual from http://www.spies.com/arcade for some other monitor, just for reference (not even the same brand) and came across this info.   ;D

Calling people useless will not get people to help any faster.  Simply put, if nobody knows the answer you probably won't get a reply.

awww lighten up...  I was just waxing comedic...  I apologize if my dry sarcastic wit failed to translate well across the message board...

my sincerest apologies to any who were offended by my off-hand comment, or who's self-esteem was injured by any words typed by mine hand...  i love you all, with a special kind of love.   ;D

Of course then you have people like me who only recently discovered the existance of the site. By the way, you didn't tell us the make and model of your monitor.
