Positive / Negative Question
« on: January 23, 2006, 11:46:58 pm »
I'm connecting my front panel connectors to my motherboard and have a question about the colors on the wires.  The Hard disk led is red/white, reset is blue/white, power sw is orange/white, and power led is green/white.  I'm having a brain freeze and can't remember if white is positive or negative.  Also the connector for the power led from my case is spaced wider then the pins on the motherboard (JFP1 connector on MSI motherboard).  Not sure if it will work.  Any help would be appreciated.  This is my first build and everything else connector wise has been going well.  Will get help tomorrow from my friend who has built multiple computers but want to do as much as I can without screwing things up to much.

The coloured wires are positive... but if ya can't get it going, just turn the connector around and put it on the other way around. This will not harm the board at all. The pos & neg conecters only matter for your leds (power & HDD), not the switches. The switches/ butons are just momentry switches (the just close a circut), so therefore have no pos or neg wire... the circut is just either open (button not pushed) or closed (button pushed).

As far as your power led connector not being the right size, it doesn't matter... just cut the connector in half, shaving the connectors plastic so as it will fit. The main thing is as long as the coloured power led wire is connected to pin 1 on the motherboard power led connection...

See..... Clear as mud...
If I can help any further, gimme a yell,
Smit

Thanks.  I did have one other question.  I have a serial ATA hard drive to install.  Since my hard drive does not use the IDE connector what setting should I place DVD ROM on (Slave/Master).  Then which IDE connector should I attach my DVD ROM to IDE1 Primary or IDE2 Secondary?

Set it up as Mater on the Primary IDE Channel.
Just look in the BIOS to see what your boot priority is set to.. Make sure it is set to boot from your SATA Hard Drive....
