Tron Stick Simple Solution!
« on: February 09, 2003, 06:49:58 pm »
Just make TWO firing sticks control plannel with trigger sticks, one 8 way and 1 4 way! Mame lets you assign multiple controlls to the same function! So when you go to tanks or cycles, switch to 4 way firing yolk stick, when you have MPC cone or spiders switch to the 8 way stick. Whats cool is now you can play Battlesone, and tank games great! And hey CYBERSLED would rock and Vindicators etc etc! so here it would be:
__________________________
-     spinner     4 way     8 way   -
-          O              I              I      -

OR
__________________________
-     spinner     8 way     4 way   -
-          O              I              I      -
__________________________

The trick is not knocking the other stick when playing, so they need to be a bit apart, BUT the spinner still needs to be off to the left, but not TOO far off to the left. Yes is itn't perfect, but as good as you can get short of an actual Tron stick. And it seems it WOULD be perfect as far as an accurate Tron playing experience control wise. What does everybody think? Would that solve all the problems in playing Tron ?

Yup, I basically said that in the two other recent threads regarding this.

Well, I don't want to say that one solution is the best. Essentially, I think the best solution is the one that you feel most comfortable with in terms of your time, capabilities and budget.

There's a myriad of configurations you could go with that will work. In simple terms, the goal is to have an 8-way stick that is fire-button capable. Additionally, if that stick can't be made to work with the original TRON restrictor, having a 4-way stick as well. Let me know what you finally decide on.
