Sound card/Surround Speaker Question
«
on:
January 20, 2006, 09:27:39 am »
I have a gutted Rush the Rock sitdown I am turning into a driving mame machine. The seat has two speakers and a sub in the base. There are two more speakers at the top of the monitor. I would like to put in surround sound for computer racing games that support it.
Is there a sound card out there that I can wire my speakers to? I don't want to buy the whole pc surround kit, only to not use the speakers. Is there an inexpensive surround processor for this type of application?
I am new to the whole surround sound thing and I appreciate any advice or tips.
Thanks.

Any old SoundBlaster Live! card should do the trick for you, since they've all got outputs for front speakers (the green connection) and rear speakers (the black connection). I'm not sure about hooking up the sub-woofer though...

Those sound cards use an RCA plug to hook up the speakers? If so, can you tell me how to hook up speaker? For the rear channel, I've got four wires, three if I combine the ground wires.
Thanks for the help.

No RCA connections. Front and Back channels use a regular stereo mini-jack. If you need RCA you could use a cable like
this
.
Are your speakers amplified?

Most sound cards use only the 1/8" stereo plugs. You can buy an adapter or make one to connect to either an amplified reciever or directly to amplified speakers.
this is an old post with a similar question I think.

I hope this helps.
Good Luck

My speakers aren't amplified. So it sounds like I have to hook the speakers up to a receiver/amplifier and the receiver hooks up to the sound card.
Thanks for the help.
