Incorporating controls into desk?

Howdy guys,

After an emotional night last night (sold my arc-eden cab), I am planning to incorporate arcade controls into a new desk that I'm building for my room.  After experiencing the bliss that playing with authentic controls, brings, I am not going to lose this feeling.  I told the missus about it and she said she didn't mind at all...but that the cab just took up too much space (she wouldn't have minded if we had a cellar...which we don't).

So, I'd appreciate if you guy's could give me any info on previous projects in this vein, or if you have any advice or eperience with this sort of setup. While it's unconventional, I believe that everyone (in my household) will be a winner

How about a modified cocktail table design - I saw a desk the other day that had a monitor inside / below the table surface - I guess for execs who didn't want a monitor on their desk .... it was viewable through a smoked glass window and the monitor was angled about 45 degrees.

Could you then mount a control panel with side rails, so that when in use, it could slide out, but when not in use it would push back inside.  I guess you could take the concept further and have a shutter that closed to cover the monitor when you push the CP back into the desk to totally hide the game station.

I am sure there is a way to then pop the CP up once it is pulled out or maybe slide it out upside down and then flip it over to play?
