Happ USB trackball problem *SOLVED*
« on: January 15, 2006, 11:45:49 pm »
Hey guys, im finally getting around to finishing my cab and the Happ trackball is giving me problems.  I've wired up the buttons and theyre performing double clicks instead of single clicks.  This is causing me problems while navigating Windows and am wondering if this is a 'known issue' or if ive got something wired wrong.  I do have it wired to the normally open terminal.

I've searched and even asked Jeeves but i cant find any info on this.  I'm calling Happ tomorrow but thought id ask here incase anyone else ran into this problem.

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

  • Currently building a custom cabinet.
The first thing I would check is the double click speed settings in windows.  Click on control panel and select mouse.  Inside there is a dialog that controls when windows will detect a double click.  For my trackball I know I had to lower the speed settings since I occasionally had a double click occur as well.

Hope that helps,

Rick

Also check that you are on the NO contact on the switch.  A NC contact can cause a weird double click type of result.

I figured out what the problem was, i ordered 28 ultimate pushbuttons from Happ controls and found 12 of them with bad microswitches.

I tested all twelve of the bad switches individually with the trackball and noticed that all twelve of em had a strange serial number on them that the others didnt have.

I could give more detailed info or pics if anyone cared.  Anyone else have experience like that with bad microswitches?   I replaced the bad microswitches in the push buttons with working/tested microswitches and everything is working great.

Thanks  ;D

I also wanted to say that before i figured out what was going on, i explained my problem to 'Les' who was working customer service at Happ Controls.

He explained that usually they dont deal with 'walk-ins' but seeing how i work so close to their building, i could come in and he'd personally hook it up and right the situation even though the trackball is over a year and a half old!

I thought it was worth mentioning  ;D

I don't care what everyone says about Happs high shipping costs.... with customer service like that, they have just 'earned' me as a loyal customer for a very long time!

I've bought all my trackballs from Happ.  Four to date.  I just buy them through other vendors.  Also, I think that customer service is great, but I don't live by the factory.
