Some basic switch wiring questions
« on: January 15, 2006, 07:43:55 pm »
Hello, I am putting the finishing touches on my cabinet and have run into a few small problems with getting my switches wired up.

Here is some background to help you guys understand the problem.

I have routed out spots for two small SPST switches on the top of my CP.  One switch turns on/off my powered speakers, the other switch turns on/off all the lights on my cab (The Marquee, Coin Returns, Lighted Trackball, etc).

Both switches are DC illuminated switches.  My first question is that I can not seem to get them to light up.  I have the 12 volt power coming from a computer power supply.  The hot wire goes from the power supply to the "light" switch.  The other side of that switch goes into each switches "Aux" lead, then to all my other lights and finally to the ground on the power supply.  All the other lights work except the two switches.  Has anyone else have experience with illuminated switches?  It only has three leads, two two "switched" leads and then "Aux".

My second question is that I have an AC device that I would like to also be controlled by my light switch.  How can I have a DC switch control an AC device that is powered elsewhere?

Please let me know if you have other questions.

Rick

Here is an image that may help.  The DC path is how it is currently set up.  The mostly empty switch controls the speakers and finally the AC circut is the additional lighting device I want to wire into the DC switch.

Thanks,

Rick
