No dice.  I got the same error trying to attach a small 16KB gif.

Just as proof (not that you don't believe me) here's a link to a screencap of the error

Woogie, I'm getting the same thing as quarterback regarding the "New" designation being given to a thread, and the new post being the one I myself just made.  When I hit "show new replies to your posts", it doesn't list ALL of the replies I've made to threads either.  I haven't noticed whether or not it was confined to threads in one particular forum or not, but I'll check right after posting this reply.

I'm still having problems with fx. I deleted the arcadecontrols.com cookie and it still won't let me log-in (same error message that everyone has been getting). The strange thing is that it will log me out for a while and then I come back and it will be logged in! This is starting to get really old (it has been doing it for quite a while now).

I have two forum.arcadecontrols.com cookies.  Make sure you delete both and also make sure that you're not just deleting some www.arcadecontrols.com or arcadecontrols.com cookies (in Firefox, they're listed alphabetically by the very first letter, either "f", "w" or "a")

I'm still having problems with long delays after the google ads (particularly on the monitor forum). It seems like with some ads there's some sort of delay programmed in like a pause to make you read the ads. In my case it causes the thread to hang up and not load or to make a reply time out & make me retype the whole thing. It's getting irritating and making it hard to either view a thread or reply to a thread in the monitor forum.

Ken, what version of IE are you running?  I just can't seem to replicate this issue. The only other suggestion I can make is have IE ignore google ads outright. It'll depend on which IE you're using for me to help with that as well.

Woogie, as of this moment, the thread in Project Announcements "Arcade Bones Marquee critique" is showing as "new" for me and I'm currently the last person posting in it.  I'm using Firefox 1.0.7

Now oddly enough, the post directly above wasn't shown as "new", but immediately after posting my "20 questions" thread in EE, it appeared as "new", and NO ONE other than myself had viewed it!

I'm still having the same problem as ken except in every forum.... I've pretty much had to give up BYOAC at home due to this problem (The only place I log in through dial up)...

Well I saw the same thing today with the "new" problem. I was the last one posted, but it still showed new items in the forum even though there weren't any. I don't think that's related to the client side, isn't that all stored in the database?

Ken/Mission -- please change your theme in your profile to the new "minimal" theme -- it's basically a standard SMF template, with the google ads taken out. I don't want to do that permanently (I need the ad revenue :) ) but it will help us determine if it's the google ads that are the problem or something else...

It's wierd how this works.

- I posted in EE.  Returned to the EE forum and my post was there, but not "new" (good)

- I went back into the thread and did a quick edit.  I returned to EE and my post was there but marked as "new" (not good)

- I clicked on the "new" icon and entered the thread.  Read my post and then hit the "Everything Else" link at the top of the page.  This returned me to EE and the thread was STILL marked with a 'new" icon. (not good)

- I hit refresh, just to make sure, and it still had the thread marked as "new" (not good)

- I hit the "new" icon, entering the thread again to read my post again.  I then clicked on teh "Build your own arcade controls forum" link, returning me to the main listing of all the forums.  The EE forum 'diamond indicator" was blue, indicating that there were new posts in that forum.  Of course, the newest post was mine, which I had read at least three times at this point. (not good)

- I clicked on the "Everything Else" forum and entered the forum.  The thread STILL had a "new" icon next to it and, of course, my post was the newest thing in it. (not good)

- I clicked the "new" icon again (third time?) and read my post one more time (yawn).  I then clicked the "Everything Else" link directly above the thread and returned to the EE forum.  FINALLY, the "new" icon had disappeared from that thread (good)

It's clear (from this example and others) that doing a quick-edit of your post can cause the 'new' icon to reappear for your own post.  However, the resulting series of clicks on the "new" icon that did NOT eventually mark the thread as having been read are... odd.

Well I saw the same thing today with the "new" problem. I was the last one posted, but it still showed new items in the forum even though there weren't any. I don't think that's related to the client side, isn't that all stored in the database?

The forum makers know of the issue with the "new" flag now. I don't know when they'll fix it. My advice for now is to ignore that feature.

The minimal mode seems to have cured the problems. Everything loads up fast again and no hang ups when trying to post. It must have been those Google ads.

BTW, I'm using IE 5.5 (an AOL version) and Win98.

I think Google's been mucking about with their adsense program. This weekend I'll poke around and see if I can figure out what's what. Worse case scenario we leave a ad-free theme available. Frankly though, the ads pay for the site so I'm motivated to make them work :)

I'll just use that theme while I'm at home on dial up where the problem occurs.. While at work and school I'll use one of the others....

I wouldn't flip back and forth on my account :)  Now that I know minimal works I can muck about with the themes and google adsense settings and see if I can make things work properly. I have it set to allow graphic ads for instance, I'll see if text-only ads make a difference.

Mission - please try the "Classic Minimal" theme and let me know how it works? It's the same as the main default theme, but with google ads restricted to text only.

this looks like it helps alot.....
