Forum software upgrade 1-15-2006
« on: January 15, 2006, 02:56:28 am »
I have upgraded the software on the forum to a new release. This brings plenty of optimizations and another theme in the set. We will eventually only offer a single theme once we have a new design implemented.

If you notice any problems or glitches with the upgrade, please post here

I noticed I couldn't get on until now!

Also, as I'm posting this, I see a blue hyperlink that says "Embarrased" mixed in with the line of DK smilies.  When I click it, I get this:
 :-[

I see the colon dash rightbracket smiley code as I'm typing my quote, but I just get a the word "Embarrassed" when I view my post.  Again, that's with the DK smiley set.

I noticed that I had to log in :) And then log in again.     I thought somebody had hacked my password or something.  But after logging in I thought I should check here and, guess what, this thread is here.

And I've noticed that clicking on images, that are attached to posts, makes them bigger and then smaller.  Cool

I also notice what Kremmit was describing although I didn't understand it when he was describing it.  When  you're composing a reply (and you are using the DK smilie set) the row of potential 'smilies' that runs above the message-composition window is okay except for the "Embarrassed" smilie.  It's not there and is, instead, replaced with the word "Embarrassed" (which is hyperlinked, as Kremmit noted)

I don't see the DK embarassed at all now (or am I blind?).
Just incase the DK embarassed has gotten deleted, here's the original:

I've disabled it as it wasn't contained in all of the themes. We should be OK now.

The cookie name has updated, thus forcing a renew of that cookie. Be sure that you are letting firefox renew the cookie

I was having this same problem.  Not immediately after the upgrade and I had to log in twice, but a few hours later I came back, was asked to log in again and then got the cookie error.     I had to go into FireFox's options and manually delete the arcadecontrols.com cookie and then it worked.

Ditto.  Is this a Firefox issue or would IE have the same thing happen?  Not sure I have IE on here anymore or else I would try it.

The forums now list my own posts as "new", whereas the old forums did not.

IOW, when I post in a thread and return to the forum, the thread I just posted in now indicates that it has a new post... you know, the one I just posted.

Any way to revert to the way it used to work?

EDIT: Okay, it didn't seem to happen here with this thread and my last post here, but it's been happening in The Main forum.

Yes, I believe we're having a problem with the gzip compression that is disabling it. I will work to see if I can get that going again. I feel your pain as I'm on a slow link at home too. I haven't really noticed a slowdown.

Yeah, I fixed that. It was my fault that it was set to simple. So, the search button in all themes will show the advanced search page by default.

No.

Everytime I click a button it is showing me logged off.  I had to open this in a new window, login on another window, and then post this here.  Any idea why I keep getting kicked off?  I'm using IE6.

Have you tried deleting any byoac related cookies and then logging back in? I've seen that happen with mucked up cookies.

I deleted all my cookies, cleared my cache, and deleted internet files twice.  Just now when I clicked reply, it asked me to login even though it showed my name up at the top next to messages.  I can click refresh 2 or 3 times and it will show me logged in again.  If no one else is having this problem, then I'm sure the problem is on my end, but I don't know how to fix it.

Is there a way to manually download a good cookie?

Okay, I've deleted my cookies again and opened up my:

c:\Documents and Settings\Mark\Cookies

folder and gone to three websites where I have accounts.  On the first two, after I logged in, a .txt file was created in the Cookies folder with a name similar to the website.  When I logged on here at BYOAC, no .txt file was created in the cookies folder.  Does that mean that my browser is not downloading the cookie?

It's not blocking cookies from any other site.  It works perfectly at home.  I e-mailed my BYOAC cookie from home to my office computer and I'll try putting that in my cookies folder and see if that fixes it.

Have you tried this in a different browser? Normally a cookie not being generated, it's a block by the browser itself. It's hard to diagnose these. I'd like to make sure the site is behaving properly on your computer with a different browser before we continue on IE6

Using my home cookie on my office computer did not work on IE6.  The site is running fine in Firefox.

I'm finding that it now takes longer to load everything after the google ads if your on dial-up....

I am having the same problem, but sporadically. I'm on dial-up and right as soon as the google ads finish loading nothing else happens. It's getting frustrating! I'm using IE/Win98.

One of the other problems I'm having is sometimes scrolling down a thread is very ssllooww and jerky. That problem is only occurring on the arcadecontrols.com forums and not on any other forums I normally visit at other websites.

Sorry, I'm just not seeing this behavior at all. I do believe your seeing it, but I simply haven't had a chance to replicate it.

Ken, which IE are you using? How about you MC (OS/Browser)?

The forums now list my own posts as "new", whereas the old forums did not.

IOW, when I post in a thread and return to the forum, the thread I just posted in now indicates that it has a new post... you know, the one I just posted.

Any way to revert to the way it used to work?

EDIT: Okay, it didn't seem to happen here with this thread and my last post here, but it's been happening in The Main forum.

This is still happening.  I just made a post in the B/S/T forum.  I returned to the forum and noticed that there was a "new" post in the thread.   And then I look... the only "new" post is the one that I just made.  What's up with this?

I have a screenshot to show what I'm talking about, but the forum is not letting me upload it.  It's saying that "The upload folder is full", just as others have reported.

qb:  Thanks for the investigation, but it still isn't helping me get any farther.

But, I want to focus on your statement regarding the attachements directory. I have not had any reports of uploading attachement problems. Is this being discussed in another thread? We have plenty of space in our attachements directory, so I'm not sure why you experienced that problem.

Sorry, I should have been clearer.  I just noticed it mentioned in another thread... but there wasn't a specific thread about it.   Let me see what threads I was reading earlier today... be right back!

EDIT:  I'm back.  Here's one other post here that mentions it.  I thought I saw a 2nd one as well, but I'm not sure where.

I'm going to try attaching a pic to my next post and see if I get the same error.
