Compile Mame Vs. Download Executables
« on: January 13, 2006, 08:11:24 pm »
This is a serious question as I'm in the process of making a version of Mame available to the public.  This will help me decide where to put some of my efforts.  Both source and executibles will be available but I may make some different configurations available.

I would put these in the software forum, if anywhere.

I voted .exe

Most people would download the .exe I would think. I'm a C coder so I downloaded the source and compiled a "special" version for my setup...

I just download the .exe

I'd really like to learn to compile so that I can make some of the cool changes you guys have made, and so I can actually learn a bit about it... but it's just so easy to download it and go.

I compile my own, just so I have the source so that if I find the time I can restart mameAnalog+.  I don't have the time to rewrite it ATM though, so I didn't pick "compile my own with changes" as I would have a few years ago.

FWIW, at first when I started mameAnalog+, I released just the source.  I didn't get much downloads until I started releasing a binary.  Then the bandwidth went through the roof.

both .exe and a diff file.
That way I can try the changed before committing to them, then adding them to a custom compile later.
