Preorder / Prepay service
« on: January 13, 2006, 04:40:59 pm »
Just wanted to give you all a heads up on a service I discovered that may help some of you working on new projects that require some REAL commitment by people before you begin a project.

https://www.fundable.org/

You can setup a group payment system... people enter in their credit card info, and are then charged when the full payment goal has been met.

SO, if you need $1000 to do a first run of some random arcade widget, and you can't front the money unless you are sure you are going to get some money back... set up a group action at fundable.org. No one gets charged until the full amount is gathered.

Pros: Actually takes & confirms credit card info.
No one get's charged until the full amount is taken in
Group actions have an expiry date, so you won't get charged a year later
No fees if the full goal is not met

Cons: 10% fee taken (ouch)
If the payout amount is over $500 then you will either have to pay $10 for a check, or have a paypal business acct (more fees taken from Paypal)

I know of a few groups that have used this service and had great success. I'd love to see it used around here. It helps gauge interest as well as take cash.

Nice. Anyway, I wish I had a project... I'd love to start a group :D

Thank you for the information.
I have changed my nickname to "Cakemeister". Please do not PM the Buddabing account because I do not check it anymore.

Please read the wiki!

You are quite welcome.

And if anyone is curious... that was a public service announcement, not a plug for something I'm involved in.
