Newbie Questions
« on: January 12, 2006, 08:34:05 pm »
Hello. I've been thinking about building a Mame cabinet for sometime. Monday I have to go pick the game up that I hope will house my cabinet. It's an "Escape from the Planet of Robot Monsters" game. The lady says it's in good shape and works fine. After reading a lot of stuff the last few days I still have more questions that I hope you all can help me with. I would REALLY APPRECIATE any help. Here are some of the questions I have:
1-After reading about the machine it uses special controllers that Atari used on a handful of games. I forget the name. Can I use those controllers in my cabinet or would I be ahead to use something else?
2-If the monitor is still good I need I need an ArcadeVGA to run it right?
3-I want to run some of the laser disk and fruit games on my cabinet. Is there an way to do this(with one frontend)? If so any sites where I can read more about it?
4-The IPac interface sound pretty simple to use. What's the catch?  :)
5-Do you recommend compiling all the roms? I think it would be hard to navigate all the clones, variants etc...I've seen pros and cons for doing so. Personally I want to play all the original versions of games. To do this I need a compiler right?
6-Has MACH 3 finally been emulated(playable) in Daphne. I used to LOVE that game and have wanted to play in for several years now.
I think that's it. For now. I'm sure I'll have a million other questions. Thanks a lot!

Assuming this isn't a troll-post, KLOV says this about it:

Uncommon - There are 10 known instances of this game owned by a known collector. Of these, 4 of them are original dedicated machines, 1 of them are conversions in which game circuit boards have been plaed in another game cabinet, and 5 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

You might want to consider something else for your MAME cab, and either restore or re-sell this game.

I tend to take the collector's stats with a grain of salt. That said, there are people out there looking for a good working EFTPOTRM. You might be able to sell it and get a nicer cab. It's kind of sad to see complete game parted out. Read the BYOAC manifesto. One big factor is how patient you are to wait for a buyer. It probably wouldn't hurt to post a FS listing and see if there's interest.

On the other hand, it's a nice cab that you could customize quite a bit. I'm pretty sure the control panel is completely removable so that it could be replaced with a frankenpanel if that's what you want. (see the Guardians of the Hood pic below) I'm not sure how the marquee is set up since it has that funky plastic thing. That might be the biggest snag. I'm guessing it's the standard setup underneath.

There are people looking for the parts and you could probably get a decent amount for them. IF you can find the right people.
