Stupid newbie Jamma questions.
« on: January 11, 2006, 10:36:50 pm »
Trying to get a little bit of a grasp on this while JAMMA thing and have a few question. I can't get a real handle on this.

1.
JAMMA as I currently understand it is a cab setup with standard connections to the what ever game is currently installed. So standard connections to the monitor, the controls and so on, Correct?

2.
Having said that JAMMA has a standard three button setup but can have a six button setup. Is this 6 button setup what everybody keeps calling the "kicks". or are kicks non standard JAMMA connections.

3.
Just what exactly runs the game IE. Is the board self contained, so if I put a newer more advaced game into a older cab provided everything bolts up and the monitor is correct will it work at full speed.

4. Do JAMMA boards for games like "House of the Dead 1/2/3/4" have specific ports for the lightguns, or do they need extra boards beyond the main board.

5.
I keep seeing JAMMA and JAMMA+ what exactly is the difference.

If there is a FAQ out there for all this stuff then point me to it, I keep getting little pieces here and there.

Check this link out:

It should answer most of your questions.  If the link doesn't come out right, search for "What is a JAMMA harness" message.  It was on page 4 I think. Author was HOTR6 I think.

2) The kick harness is what is used to connect the kick buttons to the game.  It is not a JAMMA standard IIRC(if I recall correctly) since the standard is only 3 buttons.
